Question Polo Security system, how good?

    Hey guys,

just want to know, is the standard immobilizer good on the GTi? I'm thinking once I do get my GTi going to get a Quiktrak alarm system.

any one here has got their GTi broken into? (also if this topic has been said before, mods can you please delete this)

The Polo security is pretty good. Haven't actually been broken into so can't (personally) vouch for the immobiliser ... but with VW thoroughness, I'm betting it'll work pretty well. I DO know that the alarm on my car is good and loud (might almost say 'piercing') and it is relatively easy to set it off. I polished one of the gloss 'B' pillars the other night when the car was locked up ... it complained ... VERY LOUDLY!!!!!!!!!

yeah i've set my alarm off pretty easily a few times and as i have heard people say many times before....it is bloody loud. i imagine it would be tough to break into without being noticed because of the sensitivity. also, there is the flashing red light next to the drivers side pop-up lock which 'warns' possible thieves. one thing that is good is that it is set off by movement (microwave sensors)...not also by loud sound, so you don't really get the loud exhausts going past setting your alarm off. i wouldn't imagine an upgraded alarm is necessary.

There is no benefit to be had from upgrading the alarm. It already has a state of the art alarm and immobilizer fitted.

VW uses the toughest market in the world to test their security systems and without a key it is practically impossible to steal a current generation VW.

You only have to look at it wrong with the windows down and the alarm goes off...!!
