So because your model doesn't have height adjustment, does that mean it doesn't have those under seat storage draws?

Correct. It has a load of space under there though.

Wonder if I can just get the base and bolt it up myself.

Or if it comes as one with the seat

It just dawned on me that you might have been talking about the rails themselves. Stick you head down in your front footwell and look towards the back of your car. Front and centre do you see 2 nuts and a plastic clip? This is what secures the seat to the rails...

Someone mentioned Polo GTI seats, which certainly have height adjustment.

I'm not sure what fits your car, but I'm about to remove my 2007 Polo GTI front seats to replace with Recaro shells. They are height adjustable and include side airbags. I was just going to put them in storage with my rear seats but if you're interested in them I'd be happy to consider selling them for a reasonable price.

Feel free to drop me a PM if you like.

Is there any legality issues with changing seats with ones that do not have airbags?

If not, I will also have a pair of seats and rails for sale.

how easy is it to replace seats? say replace polo ones with gti ones. both are aigbag ones?

You'll probably need the seat rails as well. That's where the height adjustment works. I imagine it would be bolt in with an electrical plug for the airbag. 20min with a spanner. I can't see the airbag connection being different, but you would be best to double check with VW first. Never know.

Maybe do a trial fit with a generous GTI owner.
