Issue: Drivers seat would not fold down for access to rear seats
Resolution: End User provided me with some photos showing a coin lodged near the seat back adjustment mechanism. 50c coin removed, all good!

Hey, could you pass on those photos? My passenger seat won't fold, but I'm not sure whether something's broken or just stuck.

Here's the fix for the seat pull issue.

The area you will need to investigate is pictured in the first picture below.
This is the right rear corner of the driver side seat. For passenger side seats, it would be the left rear corner.
In my case, I found the coin had settled in the area where the torx screw is.

As you can see from the first photo, it would be impossible to spot the obstruction if you didn't know what you were looking for.

Anyway, if you look at the second photo, it becomes slightly clearer. Loose change can trickle down into the inner workings of the seat and obstruct the path of the hook that allows the seat to move.

You should be able to get a better view of the possible obstruction by undoing the torx screw and gently bending the plastic bit held in by the torx.

    Fixed seat, and $2 profit.

my rear wiper jet has no water coming out of it, yet the front jets work fine. ive checked the jet to see if its clogged and it looks ok (i think). does anyone know what else i could check?

i held it on for a while to see if it was just time to get the water to the back, but still no go
i had the same problem. Mentioned it to the mechanic at my last service, turned out to be a split line to the jet in the rear headlining.

Soory for the late reply. Hope it helps

Issue: Persistent rattle that sounds like it is coming from just behind the right hand side air vent.

Problem: *Finally* found that the problem was a loose screw right up front near the headlight. The washer was rattling on the chassis and transferring the sound into the cabin!

This has been bugging me for months, so I hope it helps somebody else.

    Cheers,

    Walker.

Issue: Drivers door isn't lock/unlocking with the remote. Other doors are looking and unlocking, but not the drivers. The locking isn't engaging/disengaging as I can open the door after locking the car.

Only just noticed it on the week past after having a stereo installed (head unit and amp), though they didn't need to do anything near the drivers door. The installer said it was like that when he tried to unlock the car...

    Any ideas/input?

Pull the door skin off and see what's going in?? see if it's mechanical or electrical.

I own a 2010 Golf R DSG which my partner will tell anyone who asks, I LOVE THAT CAR. Because of my enthusiastic passion and her being quite impressionable she has taken a liking to the VW brand. So this evening we took a 2012 MY13 Polo GTI for a test drive. This particular car has <5000km on it. All was going fine until the current owner hopped out of the drivers seat to allow my partner to have a drive herself. While out of the car, he thought he'd demonstrate the feature of the key fob that when pressed and held on lock, it closes all the windows and sunroof. That feature worked fine but when she got into the car, started it and drove down the road, the dash display came up with the message, "Safety Lock" with a little flashing spanner next to it, and the car would not change up past second gear, even when selecting manual mode and attempting to shift with the gear shift lever. I asked her to pull over and when she did the message took up the entire screen rather than just the top line and included the message, "refer to owners manual". I asked her to turn off the car then restart it. Surprise, surprise, the message went away and then it shifted gears without a problem.
Knowing how many DSG issues and engine troubles Polo's AND Golf's have had, I'm concerned that there might be a problem with the gearbox or engine. I didn't get the opportunity to check the owners manual as we were pressed for time, so I apologise if the issue lies with the fact that the owner was messing around with the key fob. He assured us that this is the first time that has ever happened but we're not yet convinced.
If anyone else has been through the same issue, please let me know what the outcome was, either serious or quick fix, or even better no real issue at all.

I definitely don't want my partner to buy a lemon.

    Thanks in advance.

Problem: Sometimes squelching, scrubbing, grinding and squeaking (mostly middle 2) coming from the front end with every revolution of the wheels, more emphasized around corners, could even hear it in cabin when brake applied. Been giving me the edgar brits for a year or so now, getting worse.

Research: Some VWWers have mentioned this, and even posted the same noise on youtube for help. Went through the usual troubleshooting/diagnosis from advice given (eg. wheel bearing, cv's etc.), even been to dealer who couldn't replicate it. Did some research and found some answers to questions on here (other models of cars) and trusty Google.

Remedy: In a nutshell, tyres were the culprit. Still had a couple of mm's above wear markers so thought all was good. On the advice of another VWWer, swapped out front tyres for some space savers (brand new) and see if it fixes it. Hey presto, noise gone! Had all 4 tyres changed and noise has disappeared.

I have never had this problem with tyres ever, and was surprised that a tyre with a reasonable amount of tread left and very even wear could produce something that sounded like a mechanical problem. Hope this might help provide food for thought when investigating front end noises.
