I'm no grease expert, but if grease at any point breaks down into oil, then it's no longer grease and therefore no longer doing the job it was designed for.

I can't imagine VW would use some crappy grease that would break down into oil. If indeed, grease can do that.

I know, the stuff is the same consistency as oil...maybe a little thicker than engine oil but not much. Maybe I should take it to an independent and get them to look at it, but then I think, I bought a new car so I could have a warranty..why should I have to pay to get it looked at.

I'm having issues every now and again trying to shift into 1st gear at a standstill.

Sometimes the issue is remedied by shifting into second, then up from second into first... other times I just can't get into 1st no matter what so I need to start in 2nd.

    Anyone had a similar issue?

is it any easier with a few revs? or if you release and depress the clutch before engaging first?

An old car I had had stuffed syncho's and this made life easier.

Haven't really tried pulling revs in before/during engagement, but releasing the clutch fully and depressing again doesn't help it at all.

It's weird... only happens every now and again. And my box is find with the 1st to 2nd shift at high rpm, which many other boxes seem to have issues with.

If you ever have any transmission issues, only use transmission oil from VW, don't bother using anything else.

Alot of the guys use Redline on here to cure any problems they have with the gearboxes...Talk to Jmac, he will fix you up with it.

Oh! Look at that!! Maybe there is an aftermarket oil that works fine without any synchro crunching :O
