Polo Intake Thread
(holds hand up and waves)
Yep, that's me....I'm the intake skeptic...show me the deltas...dyno, quarter times, lap times, 80-120 times...anything before/after...and I could become a believer.
Have seen nothing yet, and am deeply fearful those "results" people talk about are largely the placebo effect arising from a little more induction noise and more audible turbo whistle. Suggestion : add a nice, big, noisy BOV; the effect will be even better!
My rationale is this: we're dealing with a factory FI car here; the factory engineers have everything to gain in making the intake side of the engine as efficient as possible, so they do; whereas, on the exhaust and tune side, they are grossly hampered by environmental regulations and the need to ensure the engine handles a range of fuel qualities. The results are compromises in the tune and on the exhaust configuration. Body design constraints, weight and cost are all factors against most efficient intercooling, so there's possible gains there, too.
That's why, IMHO, the best gains aftermarket are (in order) (a) chip (b) dump/exhaust (c) FMIC (provided it's not too expensive and heavy)....intake mods are a long way back, and personally I'd be spending money on brakes and handling for the Pog, before throwing any money at all in that direction
I am happy to be proven wrong here -- it's just my opinion based on the evidence I've seen so far.

Reason: clarification...and to stick my chin out further ;)
