You can wire it into the existing loom and get your acc power from the lighter. F*** paying $250 for an adaptor![]()

Hi all
Been collecting things bit for qite a while now and it is time to get the stereo in
Other cars I have done myself, but being a new car I dont want to pull it apart myself.
Biggest problem is the Deck. I am putting a Pioneer AVIC F900 in with GPS etc
I have tried googling and cant work out about the canbus, if I need a adapter or not.
The guy who was going to do my install didnt say anything about it, now today another shop said i need a $250 adapter
Also something about a wire needs to connect to a speed sensor for the GPS
Anyone have experence
Thanks
Oh it is a 07 GTI Polo

You can do it without a canbus adapter if you don't want speed sense. This is how mine is currently done. I am going to get the canbus adapter though as I do want speed sense, and when i have the adapter the stereo should stay on until the key is removed from the ignition (which doesn't happen for me with acc connected to the cigi lighter socket, some other people have said that this works for them though).
If you do decide to get a canbus make sure you get the vw specific one and not the generic one (i had the generic one and the acc feed worked as ignition and not as acc as i thought, then it died anyway and i'm waiting on the new one).
In theory the speed sense is meant help with the gps especially in tunnels. The F900 also supposedly has an internal gyro to help in this situation.
Lots of info on the F900 at www.avic411.com including info on how to boot into windows ce to apply mods.
I have the Pioneer AVIC F900bt.
I got a cage/facia adapter and an antenna booster from this site:
http://www.nexxia.co.uk/Car_Stereo_f...wagen/polo.htm
The antenna booster is needed as there is an amplifier in the base of the aerial which needs to be powered by the booster.
The model number on the facia adapter has changed but the picture looks the same. Mine was FP-015 but now it's DFPK-113. The facia adapter is recommended as Pioneer don't include the cage for some reason, I started with a cage from an Alpine unit but it wasn't secured in properly that way.
I'm not 100% happy with the facia adapter as I believe it sticks out too far from the dash but haven't found a better solution.
The canbus adapter i had was the connects2 can01. Took it back after it developed a fault. I've been told there is a vw specific version that should work better. Not sure of the model number of the specific one as I haven't gotten it yet. Auto elec mate is organising it for me though Stinger http://www.stingeraustralia.com.au/home.php
