    Polo GTI - White Smoke...

    Hi Guys,

I have a problem with my cabbie... after a drive, while idling there is white smoke after a few seconds its dies down, give it a few revs and it gives a few puffs...

checked the oil level - ok

it definately aint condensation... any ideas. got a booking next week at my preferred local dealer

only mods are de-cat and pd160 intake..

    lamda sensor?? filter?? anything valves?

    car has 42 000 km

have discussed on my local forum...
guys r not to sure, i know it aint my turbo, i get no weird sound or anything, no power loss.

im guessing may b seal somewhere between IC and turbo, or seal in Turbo itself
any ideas any1?? do u think its safe to drive for the next 5 days?

White smoke = steam = water.

I don't know enough about these cars to know how it would be getting in though.

I always thought white smoke was a head gasket issue.

Though a mate had white smoke and it was transmission fluid somehow getting through some sort of valve ... was an auto Commodore so no idea if it's possible for it to happen on a caddy.

    Good luck with it.

Sure is buddy! From the gasket not properly sealing the water galleries that run between the head and the block, and allowing water to seep in to the combustion chamber.

I'm also wondering if a dodgy seal in the turbo could allow the water cooling to enter the exhaust housing, but I don't know enough about turbos to say.

go give it the floggin of its life than check your oil. It's it's milky/cloudy, it broken.

More constructively, the oil will be a sign of water in your engine as previously described, unless it's around your turbo. Which is still a better result than in your engine.

im almost sure it was not consendation
took it for a hard drive car still feels awesome!!
no milky oil, no drop in oil level, no drop in coolant/water level
    no more smoke...
im sure it was the change in fuel brand and octane...
but to be safe i will have it checked out...

    Water in the fuel?

White smoke is nearly always water.
    Blue is oil.
    Black is excess fuel.
