No... the ECU have other temp sensor at the intake manifold, behind the throttle body.

Let the intercooler do his job!

The charge air between the intercooler (of a car fitted with a bigger intercooler...Ie Forge, APR...) and the intake manifold should be cooler than ambient temperature due to the fact that most of the time the engine is in operation, the car is moving forward, and the airflow through the intercooler is rushing through there, cooling better than ambiant.

The issue with the Pod filter putting in hotter air is that the hotter air won't be as compressed by the turbo. Thus less boost pressure.

By the time it goes through the cooler, it won't be overly different temperature (depending on a lot of variables), but it will be less compressed.

My boost gauge shows the same boost on both scenarios..?? Maybe its compressed different rates but is it negligible.

Boost pressure is measured post intercooler... and as the wastegate is operated via this measurement, it wont open until the desired boost level is hit.

If that means running the turbo harder, so be it.

So anyone hit the dyno with both setups?

does putting the pod filter in the airbox make it worse as you use a 90 degree elbow bend? is it better to leave it straight off the maf?? Air flows through straighter.

It's pretty hard to measure air intake gains on a dyno - the fans (and we have used a few) only emulate from 80 - 160 kmph of air, and this air is only hitting part of the frontal area of a car. Mostly on a dyno you are trying to get airfolw over the radiator & intercooler - not directing it straight at the intake! You can see a huge difference in MAF reading when testing on the road (closed track of course!)

hey guy, how much would it cost me for a cold air intake on the polo? i know the lite wieght battery costs around 200-300 and i think the intake on your site was around 650 ish?. pm me if you wanted to.

on another note if i go through with this ill be selling my seat intake, my stock battery and my k and n filter, if anyone is interested.

personally i always thaught the main problem with the pod was sucking hot air from the engine bay offsets the bonuses of having higher flow. the only real bonus is noise imo.

Mike, you are pretty close with that estimate - just a bit of labour to fit & fabricate new battery hold down stuff & shift some cables around!
