I've replaced the fog lights with some basic mesh to provide a little more air to the SMIC.

No idea how much of a difference this will actually make, but cant hurt...

Didn't like the idea of opening the space up more or altering the plastic light housing, this can go back to stock in 20min.

Happy with my 1st attempt at altering the look, although there's some little aspects I'll look at if this is going to be a permanent fixture.

Yeah, I saw that one and was originally going to copy.

Previously after dropping a spanner through the engine, I found how easy that panel was to remove. Then only recently seeing a post on the FMIC sitting next to the stock SMIC did i realise what that little thing down there was!

The plastic beside the fog light works similarly to the front part of the air intake which some people have cut (infront of the Seat intake or stock intake). There is a inlet section which would deflect stones and push air into the path of the SMIC.

As I am yet to use the Fogs, and am having fun playing, thought it was worth a bash.

    Air intake stone guard

When I put in my seat intake I was all set to hack out that flap thing in the funnel after having a good look at it I ended up leaving it attached.

I think that flap in the air intake funnel is to stop water getting in. If you were to drive though lots of water - it would hit that flap and drain out the bottom of the funnel thing prior to entering the air intake. Probably also knocks out bugs - seems more likely than rocks.

Buy a vent from bunnings and cut out the plastic in the wheelguard behind the SMIC. I though it made a difference as the flow of air come from the front of the guard but nowhere to go in there.

Think like ou house, if you open a window at the front and back there is far greater cooling than if a window was open at the front alone.

So if someone has a front mount intercooler...being an APR, forge or equivalent does intake temps make much difference...

Ie if your intake charge is 30 degrees VS 60 degrees...

Wont your UPGRADED Front mount intercooler spit out air at the same temp regardless of what it comes in at?

Ie whatever the ambiant temp is will probably be close to what the intercooler is chucking out air at??

Im still trying to determine if the POD filter increased temps intake will effect performance...

Does our MAF pull timing if the air is warmer before the turbo??

Charge air will ALWAYS be hotter between the compressor of the turbo and the inlet for the intercooler...This is a given, because as air is compressed, it heats up, there fore, a pod filter will make almost no difference to intake temperature after the turbo, but before the intake manifold.
The charge air between the intercooler (of a car fitted with a bigger intercooler...Ie Forge, APR...) and the intake manifold should be cooler than ambient temperature due to the fact that most of the time the engine is in operation, the car is moving forward, and the airflow through the intercooler is rushing through there, cooling better than ambiant.

    BUT...

Does the increased temp of the air through a pod go through the MAF sensor hottor and it pulls timing??

despite what the intercooler is doing..

    in my (limited) opinion:

The issue with the Pod filter putting in hotter air is that the hotter air won't be as compressed by the turbo. Thus less boost pressure.

By the time it goes through the cooler, it won't be overly different temperature (depending on a lot of variables), but it will be less compressed.
