Polo Gti - Pod Vs Seat/bmc

    Hi,

Which intake is better for Polo Gti..

Pod set up off standard tip.

    - more airflow
    - can hear turbo spooling better
    - intercooler should do its job and offset any higher intake temps

    SEAT/BMC Panel

    - Quieter
    - Cooler intake charge
    - similar air flow?

Would the intercooler ensure air temps are the same whether a pod filter is used as opposed to SEAT/BMC combo?

Intercooler does all the cooling the turbo acts as a heater for the incoming air, so makes no difference i prefer a cone filter sounds better and less restrictive, when i tested the air box after the cone its was slower to pick up, if you got a front mount get a cone! All this cold air feed stuff is for NA engines! just imagine you turbo is 80c whatever air goes through will turn to 80c weather its 10c goin in or 20c!

CAI is definately an advantage regardless of which type of car you have. Cold air compresses better (hence why a FMIC gives more power than a SMIC).

I'm currently working on a custom CAI for my Polo GTI but if you want something that is going to look stock i'd suggest going for a Seat intake and panel filter.
    Cheers,

    John

i have a seat intake and BMC at the moment..

    Any benefit changing to cone..

Im thinking doesnt matter what the intake charge is the intercooler will make it X degrees anyway?? true or false?

This is taken from the Forge Motorsport website on the Polo GTI intercooler upgrade page:

So you can see if you have a standard SMIC intake temps are still important.

But if you have a forge FMIC does that mean doesnt matter that intake temps are? Cone or SEAT intake/BMC will yield same results but maybe flow of COne might be beneficial?

except for diesels, in which case a pod filter would be a downgrade when compared to OEM.

forge air in is cooler as there is no back up of hot gasses from a small cooler! There is always an argument on air intakes on all forums , just go with what you are happy with and do your own testing !

So if I put a unenclosed pod under my hood on top of the standard air box (top of airbox gone) the intake temps will be hotter than the BMC/SEAT combo.

But if I have a Forge FMIC would it cool the intake temp from enenclosed pod to the same temp that it would cool the Panel Filter setup??

    ie

if intake temps are 100degress after turbo with panel filter

and 70 degrees with panel filter

what would output temps be of forge FMIC under both scenarios??

OMG your getting to technical, get a cone filter , try it out for a week then replace with your airbox for another week, i can assure you if you get the correct cone for the engine you will notice an increase in throttle response and a nice whoosh!!! The seat intake is alot of money for a larger pipe but reduces to the same diameter at the air box??? Anyway its all in the drive, only you can decide which you like!
