All the best mate. I'm sure you'll enjoy the car and grow to love it. Would love to see you back in a polo one day though
I suppose like myself, family circumstances result in unspeakable changes in the choice of cars eh? Have fun mate and I wish you all the best.

i know what u mean mate, i'm in a position to move on to a s15 and the polo's 1st and 2nd gear demolishes the s15s (turboback, pod) and the boost almost comes on instantly when u plant it... full respect for the lil pog!

However, the polo isn't going anywhere, just going to the old man... so i can drive the polo anytime when i'm missing some response!

note what FLOODY says about engine mounts. They're a known problem! And I wouldn't go much furthe powerwise or fiddle with the lower gear torque limiter or youll find yourself replacing the gearbox in short time. The new model has a much stronger box

The other amazing thing is that the MPS only allows the throttle to open to 83% (or something like that). I have a mate that is in the process of working one (he'll be at the Wakefield track day for those of you that are going ) and even with minor mods the thing is a beast.
    Cheers,

    John

I think it's 73% is 3rd , which is the first gear that doesn't have torque & boost limiters.

MPS3 is my opinion is fundamentally flawed from factory... But with the right mods (Not big bucks mind you) it's an absolute weapon!

Those coming to the Wakefield Track day I have organised will get to see what I mean

Yeah I am learning to love it...still tho I miss that 1st and 2nd gear of the APr'd Polo..RESPECT!! he,he. That ok tho cause I am having heaps of fun in 3rd 4th and 5th...when possible.
It is an late 08 model so hopefully the enginemount issue was rectified??
Hope so..I'll just put a Cold Air intake on it for a bit of better breath, suspension mods and thats about it.....I will however be looking at the 2010 polo gti once its been out for a couple of years...

As one of the other guys said don't mess with the torque limiting function my cousin bought a 08 mps the same time I bought my GTI and the first thing he did was a reflash which got rid of the torque limiter. To cut a long story short he had the first gearbox replaced under warranty and the next 1 was at his expense!! They absolutely shatter first gear with out the torque limiter and 2nd gear isn't far behind. It is there to protect 1st gear as it is a known weak link it has nothing to do with torque steer
Good bye GTI Hello Golf R

Having spent 3 years in an MPS6 that has no torque limiter, and knowing many many modded MPS3 owners, the gearboxes Mazda use are fine. Your cousin may well have had issues with his, but it is not a particularly common issue. There are plenty of other problems that crop up fairly commonly, e.g. the engine mounts one already noted, but Mazda have been by and large very good at honouring warranty work, even when mods have been done. And I speak from extensive experience on that score that I will not be going into on a public forum.
