    Yes, mine does.

In all seriousness, your head unit should have "MP3" stamped on it, just above the CD slot. If it doesn't - your head unit is not MP3 compatible. If that is indeed the case, I'd be looking in the boot next to the spare tyre to see when exactly your build date was.

You might be looking at an '05 rather than an '06.

Just as a question - have you encoded your MP3s with Variable Bit Rate? I'm not 100% sure if the Polo's head unit can handle that. I'd be surprised if VW swapped head units in the middle of a production run (assuming you do have an '06), and think it's more likely there might be an issue with the CD in question.

This was a feature added on later models. Mine was built sep 05 and does not have the mp3 player.

Mine was built 11/05 - i can play MP3 files here, VBR too im pretty sure, i recall seeing some mp3 cd parameters in the user manual, about how to burn the disc eg no more then 8 folders or something etc, have you checked those to make sure your cd is ok?

I read a German forum the other day on the various models of radios fitted to Volkswagens, basically it said that the base CD version is capable to play DVD and MP3 music formats on any once the update disc is loaded into the system.
It appears that most current spec radio systems are capable of the upgrade and the upgrades should be available from your VW service areas. If they don't have it then it is available to download via their VW TIBs.
Ask your dealer to see if it can be fixed and if no joy approach VGA at 6 Lord St Botany NSW (02) 9695 6000. If you make the noise they will hear you.

Mine was delivered in Feb 2006 to NZ. It has MP3 tag on it, and has no problem playing them at all! I made CDs with NERO burning ROM.

No problems. Just remember to use good blank CDs (like Imation, or Sony or something reputable), and not on DVD!
