If you easily close it, it will lock but its jiggly and not closed properly.
Same here, I find I have to give it a good helping hand ... under it's own weight it won't latch properly.

On my 2006 gti the small plastic flap that covers the latch hole boot side fell apart 2 years ago so i removed it and found boot shut better with out it. Only last week i put it back on had to pull all the plastic off up to the tail lights .The shaft had worked loose or was not installed right at assembly its all good now.I give the latch at least 5 seconds after opening and follow through with my hand light pressure on the vw badge wait 2 seconds and it always shuts.Hope this helps.

I too use the internal handles to pull down the boot to shut my polo (but that just may be because im short!)

I always find myself getting out of the drivers seat to shut the boot properly when someone else has closed it You really do need to give it a little bit of a push to close it, but I like the nice solid thud it makes when you do.

Yep I noticed this when I was borrowing a Polo for a week. Needed much more effort to close it than my Mk IV. I noticed as well the two stage unlocking - ie one click on the remote to unlock driver's door, 2nd click to open all other doors etc - was turned on by default. I presume then it's std across the Polo (and prob Mk V) range?

Slightly off topic, I've had autolocking turn on in my car as it can be controlled through VAGCOM. If I unlock the doors to get out using the unlock button on the door, (rather than pulling the handle twice) the boot unlocks as well but then relocks after 30 seconds if not opened in that time while the doors stay unlocked.
