polo boot.

hey does anyone struggle to close the boot? with my new polo i have to really slam the boot closed for it to be able to lock. does anyone else have the same problem?

Yeah I have the same problem too. I generally find that if you let it close by itself by letting go, its usually not sufficient so most of the time I have to either slam it or give it a a little shove just before it fully closes.

thanks GTI Dave, its alot harder than any of my other cars. its good to see that im not the only one.

08polo- dont slam!!!!

i initially thought that you had to slam the bejesus out of it before it would close-then i realised that there is some sort of electric latch thingy that resets itself after every time you open the boot- this takes a few seconds.

so next time you open the boot and chuck something in, just wait about 7 seconds or so, and then close FIRMLY, but dont slam it.

it'll make a nice deep "thud" sound, and your open boot light wont be on

hey, i closed firmly and waited and nothing happened, the manuals don't say anything about an electric latch for the boot. is it supposed to lock itself automatically?

One of the things the dealer told me when I picked up my Polo was to close the boot firmly. He suggested pressing on the VW badge when closing. Works every time for me.

I'm pretty sure it does lock automatically after a certain amount of time. I'll have to check the manual - somewhere under "locking" I think.

No it doesn't.

What Scott was saying was when you open it, the latch has to reset before you can shut it properly. If it doesn't work the first time and you attempt to shut it again immediately it won't work, wait a few seconds.

You don't have to slam the boot, I pull on the handles on the inside of the tailgate and let go once it's about to hit my arm. Shuts every time.

I just tested it - shut the boot the way you said by pulling on the internal handles....nice method btw.

With both front doors unlocked, if you unlock the boot, then close it, it doesn't automatically lock.
With only the drivers door unlocked, if you unlock the boot, then close it, it does automatically lock.

This is on a 3 door, 09 GTI though, so different model/year Polos might vary?

True, if you use the key to unlock the boot separately it will lock itself after. Same as if you unlock the car and don't open a door, it'll lock again.

Most remote central locking cars do this though.
