    Please VWwatercooled pimp my ride

Hey guys i have 08 polo gti and have had it stock besides a upgrading soundsytem for a few months. I feel like its time for some fun. I am going to get my wheels dipped again and either repair or replace my headlights as they look worn. Heres the list of stuff i want to do to it but im not good with cars so will need your help.

    1. tune
    2. lower either springs or coilies
    3. dump pipe or full exhaust
    4. rims- maybe bbs
    5. turbo inlet pipe
    6. seat air intake

Not sure which order i want do it in but im mainly stuck on exhaust and lowering i have no idea about these.
any help or ideas would be great

Your mod list is either handling or power. Pick one and proceed

I did handling first as I was happy with the stock power for quite some time.

Wouldn't touch just lowering it via springs, you'll be disappointed and missing a lot of potential. I'm happy with the suspension in both cars, spring/strut is a nice combo, though I have the super low H&R springs which aren't ideal on really rough roads, a bit too low and lacking of wheel travel. The H&R coilovers handle the rougher roads better as they aren't as low, but are otherwise firmer.

Power wise, do the tune, TIP and intake together, it'll be a different car after that. For the daily, I haven't bothered with the exhaust, it has enough power and still quiet. Plus needs a retune and Superchips didn't have a tried and tested tune available.

Dollars per smile, power is the way to go.

I know this is just advertising, but you could just buy a Polo with those mods.

IMO modding is a lot of fun and pain if you do it yourself and feeling each step of the progress has its merits.

Be aware that your list is looking to be 2.5-5 grand with the crappy AUD at the mo. There are always cheaper options, but decent coilies like KW's are much more expensive now than they were 6 months ago. Sucks.

IMO, I'd start with a chip and then coilovers, see what takes your fancy after that. Chipping the Polo is a must, the power is totally different with CC or other good tunes. The stock suspension is too soft for the new power, so Coilies and an engine mount help with the new power.

Then you've got the PD160 for helping the engine breathe, a rear rollbar for the body roll, shift links and short shifter for the better gear change, etc, etc, etc. Lots of good mods, they are all very worthy IMO and each one makes a noticable difference. In summer the FMIC makes a big difference, in winter its not really adding much.

    Enjoy.

I can't give it to you for free to pimp your ride, but you can have the tune for $690 from me (subject to my mechanical inspection, which is free).

thanks for the advice ill be looking at doping the tune tip and air intake in one go then ill look at lowering later on in the year.
At this stage i will most likely go a stage one tune and it will be viezu as its local

will most likely buy the parts from awsome gti. and recommendations on a diverter valve or websites for parts

Wait till you get everything on/in before you worry about a diverter valve. The dollar's not great and local products are top notch eg(turbosmart , GFB).

I'd save the TIP for when you get the exhaust done as you'll need the next stage of tune when you do the dump and that's probably only when you'll notice performance gain from the TIP anyway, and its easy to fit at the same time from underneath when the car is up on the hoist.

If viezu are like APR and its only a couple of hundred to cancel the CEL generated by the dump pipe, then going stage 1 first might be a good ploy. If however you have to shell out similar dollars all over again to go stage 2 maybe consider doing the dump initially as it will save you, as I guarantee that within a year of stage 1 you'll be shopping for dump pipes!

PD160 is a better mod than the dump pipe, tip, etc. The TIP isn't a big one for gains.

Forge 008 is a great diverter, you can probably pick up a 007 used on one of the VW / Audi forums if you're patient. It does not give extra power, but the stock ones can die fairly quickly with the extra boost of the tune.

Nothing wrong with Awesome GTI, there are other places, wherever is cheaper IMO. DPM is another good one (UK), good shipping rates.

    Thanks for the info mate.

Is it a safer option to just to stage one for reliability?

After our phone call conversation, I saw your post and I didn't realise that you were under the impression that I still do Viezu tunes.
I did quit several months ago.

No I think a stage 2 setups are probably more reliable for the motor itself. They tune for the same boost peak as stage 1's for instance, yet are doing this with less backpressure (dump/cat), so the turbo runs more efficiently (less turbine rpm to push out same boost) and cooler (exhaust gas temps are lower). I'd hazard a guess that as a result inlet air temps are lower after you've fitted a stage 2 dump/cat than before - and an intercooler helps that situation further. In short Stage 2 tunes (that accompany the stage 2 hardware changes) helps the engine make power more efficiently. Stage 1 in contrast forces a stock setup to run much harder than the factory intended to make the extra power.
But of course both stage 1 and 2 are worse for reliability in general over stock basically because you'll be driving it like its stolen.
