Are the stock wheels, tyres & suspension good enough to handle lowering? & what about the GTI stock wheels, tyres & suspension?

Jess - as they say, walk before you can run and Rome wasn't built in a day.

My advice would be keep the car standard for some time - appreciate it as it is, learn it's dynamics. Read the forums here, read old posts, ask pertinent questions.

You don't need to learn & understand everything about modifying a car today/tomorrow.

    It all takes time.

Little of this will make sense to you until you understand how your car works in standard form. You won't know why you would want to modify the suspension until you understand how your current suspension works and where you think it could be improved.

Lowering will wear your shocks out faster, the lower you go the faster the rate of wear.
Shocks generally have a dampening range, usually you can lower up to 30mm without a problem. Any lower you'll find the ride to become bumpy.
It also puts more stress on the chassis which in turn will flex and crack. Thats why its important to match the shocks with the springs and dont go overboard with lowering.

    Hi Jessica,

This is the most sensible piece of advice you have received so far. Enjoy your car, get to know it and IF you feel something is lacking down the track, learn what the options are and then action accordingly. Your TDI Polo is a great little car, I'm sure you will get lots of enjoyment from it.

    Cheers

I saw this a few time at the police workshops in Darwin..."Member to pay"...Never something you want to see on an incident report....Its hard to make an excuse when you see 'DIESEL ONLY' next to the fuel filler!!
