springs AND shocks? how much is a set of matching shocks?

or are we looking at close to coils, in terms of cost, with replacing both springs and shocks?

and anyone have any ideas on cup kit?

Yes very true. However I wasnt talking about stiffness I was talking about ride height. I know the prefect setup is to have it as soft as possible to maintain constant contact with road, yet be hard enough not to allow the car to hit bump stops (bottom out) or lean so much around a corner that it looks like its about to tip over.
Thats what is what suspension was designed to do on road cars and race cars, absorb bumps yet maintain constant road contact.

So having it any lower than 35mm does not mean your car would be slower on a track. If you have a good set of coilovers or matched springs and dampers your car could actually be quicker on the track if it was lower than 35mm.
It may not be the best setup for the road but Buller Scott's statement referring to a track car.

Just one other thing. Race cars are also super low because it helps with aerodynamics, which again can result in faster lap times around the track.

So thats why I dont understand how he come to this conclusion.

But then again he does say he is "newbie when it comes to this stuff".

i'd say a lower centre of gravity is the number one reason for going low. less body roll > less weight transfer > better and more consistent handling

not to be rude, but didnt i post numerous times that i have formed NO conclusions of my own, that the information i was posting was stuff i had read as posted by site administrators on vwvortex forums?

additionally, i thought i posted numerous times that this was in the context of taking a stock standard car, and changing out the oem springs for 3-4inch lowering springs, but leaving everything else (including shocks) as stock standard......... i never mentioned coilovers, nor did i mention race track cars- i was talking stock shocks, lowering springs, and losing time around a track as a result- which makes sense.

thats why the two posts directly after YOURS, merely support what i was regurgitating, and what vwvortex posters had posted on that site.

sorry if the conclusions that i didnt come to, offend you, and im not too sure why you are trying to outline my modification and mechanical illiteracy by quoting that i am a newbie? im pretty certain i set the scene in all my posts preceding yours.....

    cheers.

    Well thats answers my question.

When you said that I took it as though you agreed with what those Vortex guys said. I just wanted further proof of this claim.

You didnt offend me, no harm no foul.
