Yeh, I'm not looking at modding immediately as I'm also trying to pay off a unit. But maybe in 12 months time I will look at getting an APR tune or something. They're the blokes to go to yeh?

My driving buddies have a mini cooper s with JCW pack and an XR5 Turbo with a flash tune. I have a 200kg advantage over the mini, and so gaining enough power to beat him down the 1/4mile shouldn't be too difficult, but I'm not even going to attempt to match the handling on the mini, it's insane!

What gains can i expect with an APR chip and no other mods? +25kw and 70nm?

There is also GIAC and Revo. They're all the same power, some have more features then others.

I wouldn't be too sure bout the handling, it's not as flat and pretty as the MINI, but learn to drive it well and you'll keep up easily. To be honest, chipping isn't as important as some make out. In this car it's more about using the power. I've followed many a chipped car up a windy mountain pass and in the tighter turns they just spin the wheels. If you like the drags or standing around at BBQ's talking about your mods, then yeah chipping IS a must.

I assume it's had it's 60,000km major service? I only started having this coolant temp light come on after my 60,000km service and since then it's come on maybe once every 2-3 months. I've filled it up once or twice, when it's looking really low, but mostly it goes away when the coolant level returns to normal.

On the other hand, some people are new to this VW Polo GTI and don't have a clue what they're talking about. It seems we have a major troll on this forum lately, they're best to be avoided when looking for advice. Others have had their cars for more then 3 years and know what they're talking about.

    It's a guarantee you'll enjoy the car

flip, i recommend waiting a while to get the chip.

personally i did it, managed to hold off for a year before getting it, and after the chip it felt like a brand new car again.

http://www.goapr.com.au will provide you with all the info on power gains for the chip and a few other modifications.

    welcome to the forum.

I haven't worried about the chip yet but it is definately on the cards for the future (to match my bigger turbo when installed ).

Be wary of chipping it straight away. Some reflashes can't be turned off (non APR) and if the dealer finds this then they could void any warranty remaining.

As mentioned by others there are quite a number of companies offering reflashes. All have their pro's and con's (not going to start another chip war) so do your research and take it from there. A number of companies also offer complementary 6 hr trials before you purchase the software (may be something else to consider).

    Enjoy your new toy
    Cheers,

    John

Actually, most tunes can be turned back to stock. GIAC, APR and REVO all can.

GIAC tune + stock map with a hand held switch comes to $1200 if you buy it from Dub Addiction. By far the best bang for your buck.
