I've only ever used BP Ultimate and Shell Optimax. I found Ultimate to be the best and since I have one close to my house it's all i use.

I've been using Shell - but I'd be keen the hear what others use...

I use BP ultimate (its on the way to work). I find the car performs better on this or Vortex 98. I find shell to induce some funny tenancies in my car, but I reckon it might depend on what you run your car in on??

Usually ultimate for me too, otherwise vpower.

I find it runs better when its on ultimate compared to vpower, and it seems to make a nice little over run pop everynow and then too

Usually Ultimate here - although on occasion, the Caltex up the road from BP Artarmon (Chatswood, just after the Mowbray Road intersection) can be eight to ten cents per litre cheaper than the BP.

On those days - I put Vortex 98 in. I've never put Synergy 8000 or V-Power in mine, so I can't say anything about either. I find the Polo doesn't idle as well on the Vortex 98 compared to the BP, with a fair few more vibrations from the engine and a "lumpier" idle with the needle occasionally jumping.

On the flipside - I'm not sure what they put in BP Ultimate - but on a rainy day, I get soot accumulation on my rear hatch. I've not noticed this with the Caltex, but perhaps it's because it rarely goes in.

another vote for BP - we also get both BP and Shell here in South Africa - i find that the BP works better in my car than the shell v-power

Wand Weaver; are you sure its soot from your exhaust? I just always thought it was crap off the road which gets misted on to the back of the car?

I'm pretty sure it's soot - if it was dirt off the road, it wouldn't always be the fine black particles that I nearly always find there after a rainy day. It always seems to be about the same consistency - dirt tends to "clump" and stick to the paintwork, this black stuff tends to wash right off with the rain, but a whole heap of it remains there when it dries up, leaving a pile of it on the bumper (which seems perfectly designed to collect it) and the "mist" on the hatch itself.

Anyone who doesn't use BP Ultimate - have you noticed this "soot"?
