The Fuel guage is very pessimistic and I suspect VW does it on purpose.
I often drive my car to 0km left to go with the needle past the E and then still only put 41l is when filling up. It would thus still have at least 4l left.
Hey guys...
I was wondering if you guys have also encountered this? When my fuel tank is getting close to empty, and the distance to empty showes 60km or less with the fuel light on, you go and top it up. In getting to the station, I am consistantly only putting in 36L into a 45L tank.
First of all, I am not really complaining, as this is saving some embarrasment and the Fuel Pump, but metioning this to Shane when I was in Brisbane, he stated he dosn't get this happening to him.
This happens both when I am doing some spirited driving, and when I am driving more sedately, and consistanly putting in only 36/37L when the guage shows 60km to go. This has happened for the last 11 months that I have had the car.

When I top up with either 10km or 0 km, it usually amounts to 42-43L. So having a couple of extra litres isn't so bad!

Most ive ever got in is 54.5L
Ive ran the car out of fuel on purpose. I got 120km with it on 0 K's to go. (driving sensibly)
My DTE is just like yours. 50km and fuel light on is more like 100km to go for me. Instead of relying on that I reset my fuel usage/100km and tripometer every time I fill up, use that to work out my expected mileage from a full tank and then take 5% off that to be conservative. I am usually spot on with that calc.
For example, if I am averaging 10l/100km since my last fill up, I would expect to do 450km (45l tank x 100 / 10) less 5% so my life on that tank ends up being about 428km.

yeah i don't even look at the digital read-out...i have found it to be way out of wack. it seems it works off your average L/100km so even if you have a quick squirt up the road, your read-out 'kms left' will show a lot lower than actual 'kms left' until the L/100km has come right back down (which can take forever!).
For example, i had a very spirited driving day recently and had my readout on 0km left and my needle was still at the first white line, which is usually about 30-40km left.
One last thing, i dont like how it goes down by increments of 10's. One minute you have 10km left and then in the next instant...0..."aaah, i'm all out of fuel". even basic holden's get increments of 1's.

yeah i know it actually makes it worse....there may as well not be a digital read-out at all. people see 0 now and are like "meh, got heaps left" and are more likely to run out because zero......is not zero!
what has the world come to when a designated number doesn't even equate to its true value.
