Hi,
How does the Polo Gti drive fully loaded with gear and people?
Need a car that can take upto 4 people and 4 medium sized backpacks on weekend climbing trips, not a huge Subaru wagon fan...
Would often only be 2 or 3 people, and several hours of rural driving.
Regards,
Bus

i had mine fully loaded going to the south coast with 3 people in the car. Boot was packed with food, luggage etc and the backseat with more luggage..
The back passenger was atleast 5`9 and didnt complain about being squished considering the front passenger was about 6`1..
I thought it handled the drive well and didnt struggle at all...
Perhaps the 1.9TDI in either Polo or Golf clothing would be a better option - both 5 door too.
Driving other people around is the exception to the rule, having fun and driving a wikkid car are more important. Driving atleast 3 people several times a month, and 4 rarely would be nice ...
(no offence to 5 doors, golfs, or TDI's, I drive my flatmates 5 door TDI golf all the time, and it's awsome, but I prefer small sports cars)

Well it doesn't take off as hard, but I found i can corner faster with the extra weight holding the back wheels on the ground a bit more. The car didn't tilt as much with mid corner lift-off.
i've had 5 adults in my car at the same time. obviously not as fast off the mark, but by no means slow. handling and cornering were both very good. remember that the GTI is a 3 door, so getting in and out might get tedious for those in the back.

Still went just as hard!

i have had mine fully load with three 5'11" - 6' girls in the back, my gf in the front with me, and a boot full of their luggage (you can just imagine it ). i am 6'1" and i had no complaints from the girls in the back. i had to drive around like this for quite a while and by no means is the car slow, i was very impressed with the pull under that sort of load. obviously it helps having the car chipped because i get the benefit of ~150kW and 328Nm of torque instead of the standard 110kW and 220Nm .
only negatives, yes the back leg room is a bit short of space but just remember....its not a hummer. and secondly, as mentioned before, getting in and out may get tedious for the passengers in the rear. if they complain, just tell them to have a teaspoon of concrete and harden the f**k up.
