    Sorry, i was thrown by the title, "old polos are too slow" I thought it was an exercise to speed up the old polo not change the gearbox.

    Your costing seems good, I didnt think you would be able to source it so cheaply.

    Is the 1.8 the version out of the MK 3 Golf CL? 66kw?

    Perhaps you should have sourced the 77 kw 1.6L out of a Seat Cordoba etc

    Thanks for all the comments guys, made me check a few things before rushing headlong which is how I normally do things! I'm getting a 1.8 77kw motor from a Cordoba and by the time it is fitted everything should look like it came that way from the VW factory. The Cordoba engine is the logical choice as the wiring loom will match up with the Polo. If I used a different engine there would be lots of little things needed to get it to work with the Polo electrics.

    I'll post pictures and comments when the conversion starts.
