    Oil for Polo 9N 1.9TDI

I am trying to find the correct oil to purchase for a 1.9TDI AXR engine.

Supercheap oil selector in store comes up with Castrol Edge 5W-30 LL which has manufacturer approval 507.00 (from VW)

I thought I was supposed to use 505.01 but can't find it anywhere.

Stuff I have read says 507.00 supersedes 505.01 other site say that it doesn't.

What oil are people running in their 1.9 TDI AXR engines?

I have looked on all the major oil manufacturer Australian websites and they state "Refer to Dealer" whilst the UK Castrol site recommends Castrol Edge 5W-30 LL which I can purchase at Supercheap but it says its 507.00.

I just buy any oil with the 507 spec oil with proper certification that is on special at one of the auto stores so I have one oil to use with my Polo and our CR TDi Golf.

There's a big thread about 507 vs 505 oil in the oils and lubricants forum and basically you can use 507 to replace 505.

Yeah - I've spent the past 4hrs reading thread after thread saying that 507.00 is or isn't compatible. The main issue seems to be that 507.00 is 5W-30 and most people owning these PD engines suffer early camshaft wear and that the thinner oil is only making the problem worse.

At this stage I’m leaning towards Mobil 1 Delvac ESP 5W-40

Penrite have a 5w-40 which is 505 spec. I used to run this in my Mk6 GTI.

Given that the AXR doesn't run a dpf, the oil spec is a LOT less critical than for the TDis that do

Nulon Euro 5W30, approved by VW, it's 507 spec exceeds 505.1 in all areas.

This is what I don’t understand. I’ve read countless forum threads with people debating whether or not 507 supersedes 505.01. I saw emails to and from VW where they say it does, other emails from VW say that it absolutely does not.

And that oil is 5W30 which is not specified for the 1.9TDI PD engine. It requires 5W40.
