    Well Ant. I like the RSR's, but the Yokohama AD08-R's seem to be getting very close to semi's going by that Speedhunters article ya put up.

    I'm really after something you an get in and belt immediately, a hill climb and traditional gymkhana tyre. The sort of tyre doing 500km on a sunday meet wont destroy.

    I rode in an improved prod 3j Cosworth powered escort ten years ago with what I think was the control tyre at the time, a 205/60/13 Yokohama a032 and that made enough grip to hurt. That is where I'd like the polo positioned. The more I think about it a 205/45 or 205/50 16 on standard rims will work very very well, and looks stock except for the tread pattern. Important when explaining away your sins to the police. $2000 saved on rims buys a lot of front tyres.

    Eddy, did you ever settle on your track tyre?

    Semi slicks are actually pretty tough due to the relative lack of tread
    I destroyed my stock front tyres on my first track day and with semi slicks on my next visit, I went faster and the tyres had no wear problem (I had delamination issues but that's another story).

    As for a painful amount of grip, I used a run up our local twisty roads to scrub in my latest set of semis and after 18km of really tight stuff scaring myself with out going anywhere near the tyre limits, I had a sore neck.

    Not custom made, but had to be made (in sliver) as none in stock anywhere, they are heavy but solid.

    Greg I usually do a gentle running of new semi's, I buy from Gordon Leven @ Penrith then do a easy drive down to Goulburn.
    Bill from Gordon Leven reckons that this a great first heat cycle for new semi's, so that's what I do.

    I drove up the Reefton Spur going as fast as I dared, faster than any other time I've been up on any machine, and the A048's just went around the bends, no fuss, no bother and were barely warm to touch when I pulled over at the top. The break in was gentle compared to a track session but demonstrated to me just how much better semi-slicks are than normal tyres.

    The Neovo AD08R's must be pretty good but on track, I'd bet they would fall apart more quickly than A048/A050's. Where they would be far better is as daily use tyres - the A048 is noisy and harsh (feels/sound like you're driving a stiff 4WD) and aquaplanes like a bar$tard once there is standing water on the tarmac and I doubt the A050 is any better (the difference is the tread pattern of the A050 is supposed to make the tyre less prone to overheating). I'd also imagine the AD08R wouldn't heat cycle in road use like the full semis.

    I can't find the proper UTQG rating for the AD08R (TireRack have the same as the AD08 at 180) - the A048/A050 is 100 and the AD08 is 180 so I'd guess the AD08R would be around 140, like the Federal 595R (for persprective, the Kumho V810R is 30!!!)

    I think the biggest difference will be that with semi's is that they won't go mussy as quick as good streety's because of less side wall flex.
