That's not the part to believe. The missus letting him is more unreal :p. Guess shed rather be driving faster haha
Thanks Mike. It took me a while to get back into cruise mode as early on, I was trying to conserve fuel and carry too much corner speed.
All us other guys have done a few track days so we're more familiar with our vehicles as they approach their limits which greatly increases confidence.
To keep up with the R32 (forget what n v's name is ), I would have needed to run my semi-slicks which then would have obliterated it (the grip from them is mental and gave me a sore neck on a run up the Reefton one time)
I couldn't believe Todd was driving like that with his kids in the back!!

So... Given the following, how would you dress the car? Rim size width and offset, tyres... I'm leaning toward 16in to maintain the tyre profile. Yokohama Neovas are available in a 215/45/16
Polo GTI at Stage 3 tune,
Standard wheels with Michelin Pilot Sports at around 50% tread (ok, but not exceptional)
Standard brakes
Ever so slightly lowered with HR springs and FSD Koni, although I may change again
Will go to the track in the future, currently embarrassing sport bikes in NSW National Park...
Driven about 5000km a year, and any tyre short of a true road legal race tyre will be acceptable
To go to a 'better' size tyre a rim swap will probably be required at least in width and offset, also acceptable.
Going wider than 205 gives clearance issues which require negative camber or guard rolling.
The 6R is better in this respect

I run 215/40R17 Kumho V710s on the track without any clearance issues - and that's with PSS9 coil overs and a ride height slightly lower than the stock springs.
The 45 profile seems to be the killer - if you can find 215/40 in the 16" size that might be a good option.
215/40/17 all around. I think a 7.5 wide wheel is fine, not sure if there is any performance advantage to going wider. Still, 17x8 fit fine with the above tyre pretty low, no scrubbing. I'd have them as wide as will tuck, 35 on 8" works.
I run semis up front and don't care to much about the rear as it stays put with anything IMO.
I guess the offset of the wheels is the other factor - if you're into "poke" or "stance" then you are more likely to foul the guards than with stock offset.

I'm willing to bet the Polo is faster all the time tyre for tyre, size for size in a 16in wheel. There's plenty of Super grippy 205/16s, but I have the PS3s and there's not a whole lot more left if the regular tyre segment without going wider. KU31 comes in a 215/40/16 but I don't think this is really a grip upgrade as such, only more weight and noise...?
