Thread: The Official Polo Tyre Thread

  1. #401

We have purchased tyres from the same BJTM for 10 years, through the same owner/manager. The problem they have is getting and keeping good fitters. My case was an example of them not talking to each other and ordering the wrong tyre. I can't fault their workmanship so I'm happy to go back. I guess my experience may be unique...

Have tyres gone up in price a LOT since 2009 or is it just Adelaide prices ?

Kuhmo KH17s are around $130 fitted
    KU31s are $190

Offered all sorts of other alternatives
    falken ze912 $190
    Supercat (Bridgestone ) $155
    Maxxis i-Pro $155

at this stage the KH17s despite a few people on this forum not liking them might be the only viable option for not spending big $$

I was quoted about that for KU31s this week.

Gone for a couple of R1Rs for the front, not cheap. Get them tomorrow morning.

    Depends what you want?

    Car - 08 Polo GTI
    Rim Size - Stock 16s
    New Tyre - Toyo R1R
    Tyre Size - 205/45/16
Tyre Replaced - GT Radial Champiro HPX
    Km's On new Tyre - 200km
    Thoughts on New Tyre -

Not a cheap tyre at 290 fitted but I was at the mercy of availablity - no nittos, RSRs, yokos available in stock sizes at the moment.

So far so good, they don't complain as early as the previous tyres and have improved the point and shoot steering that I liked so much when I bought the car. Suburban chicanes at the same speed require less effort and looks to be room for another 5-10km/h more with these tyres.

They did need to be run in but with a few kms in them they seem to be a good tyre.

    Not expecting miracles on longevity.

I don't think Continental import an suitable tyres for the Polo GTI anymore.

You should be able to get Michelin PS3 for 180-200 each.

    Car - 05 Polo 1.4L
Rim Size - Avanti 17" not sure what the type was called, they're old now..
    New Tyre - Nexen N6000
Price - $115 per tyre at a goodyear in Castle Hill area of NSW
    Tyre Size - 205/40/17
    Tyre Replaced - Toyo Proxes4
    Km's On new Tyre - Roughly 3000km's
Thoughts on New Tyre - I had the Toyo's ever since I boght my set of rim's and I loved them, great grip, great wear.. But I couldn't really afford $250 a tyre before rego this year so I bought the Nexem N6000's and I'm actually really happy with them, I think they'll wear a little faster but for grip and ride comfortability they're quite nice, especially for a cheaper brand tyre!!

I will be purchasing 215/40/17 tyres in the next couple of weeks to go on some 17 x 7.5 rims.

Kumho KU31 is the cheap solution at around $160.00 at most local suppliers (yes you can buy them from a bit over $100.00 online but by the time I pay shipping and then fitting, they are no longer $100.00 bargains). Had these on my HSV and great bang for your buck but I would like to do better.

Brdigestone Adrenalin RE002 should be excellent (very happy with the earlier RE001 on the other halfs A3 and by all accounts the RE002 is at least a modest improvement). Costs is not nice with the best price I have being $239.00 a corner fitted.

Goodyear Eagle F1 Directional 5 - online reports suggest it is a very good tyre for a smaller lighter vehicle like the 9N. Goodyear buy 4 pay for 3 promotion sees them working out at $153.75 a corner fitted. Given what I will have to pay for KU31s these at first glance seem an excellent deal. Does any body have any experience with these?
