Trackside in Melbourne, 215/40/17 $250 each, normally $450

But they are quite wide for a 215, they look huge, and the guy said they wouldnt fit, when i went to pick them up.
So back to square 1, 16's wont fit, hard to find good tyres in a 205

For what its worth, I just done a track session on the weekend with RE55's in the 215/40/17, they fit, the rear running with 38mm offset, the front with 28mm off set, but also had 3.2 minus camber, can't ya tell if the standard -1 camber will work.
I still run original rims for street using 205/50/16 in the FEDERAL 595RS-R which
I noticed that a fair few were using on the track & doing O.K.

Yep, they do, but they also helped me to get 1:10.5 @ Wakefield Park on the weekend.

Thats a dam good price ya got, me just paid $300.00, but they are dated 50 week/2008.
Had to buy an extra one, we blew one.

I can get the following tyres for almost the same money

• Toyo RE888
• Dunlop DZ03G
• Bridgestone RE55

What do people think of these 3 as track tyres (maybe the very occasional cruise)?

im having trouble sourcing a set of RE55s in sydney. i called up the bridgestone motorsport dealer and he said that bridgestone HQ were doing something and have nil stock with no eta on the next batch...

Possibly they still have issues from the earthquake/tsunami. You could try contacting Trackside Race & Rally Tyres to see what shpping from Melbourne would be like - thay had stock in my size when I rang today.

Got 175/65 Michelin XM2s mounted on my 14" rims today - now I can push for some real performance numbers!!

Thoughts on new tyre - The OEM's CSC2's were definately on their last legs, and the recent rain we've had in Syd last week prompted me to finally get some new shoes. Originally wanted the Khumo KU31's, but Tempe tyres only had 2 left. The guy on the phone said they had Continental Extreme Contact DW's in my size, but were $170 each, compared to $130 for the Khumo's. Hung up, jumped online and started to do some research. Seems these are very popular with the BMW owners in the USA, and the reviews were positive. I had already taken the day off work to get tyres, so just bit the bullet and paid the extra $$$. After a week, I am very pleased with them.
The first thing that immediately stood out was that they are so much quieter than the CSC2's were.
I've also noticed less torque steer, less tramlining on the crap roads in my area, and the grip is fantastic. When they finally let go under hard cornering, the loss of traction is very progressive and controllable which gives you an added level of confidence.
It seems impossible, but to me, they feel as good in the wet as they do in the dry. Under hard acceleration in 1st and 2nd the TC still kicks in around the same point. With the old CSC2's hard acceleration in the wet was useless.
The only downside I can think of, apart from the price, is that the sidewalls on these are more rounded than square, which make them look less 'sporty' and give them the appearance of a higher side profile.

Naturally, this review is subjective because I'm comparing brand new tyres to tyres that were 40,000ks' old, but overall I'm very pleased with them so far. I'll post another update 40,000ks from now.

The Dunlops were totally buggered. One was so bald that the fabric was coming through. When Dunlops were new I thought they felt about the same or a bit better than the OEM Contis. Contis had TERRIBLE sidewall strength. I'm impressed with the KU31s. Very comfy tyre and is so progressive for just around the burbs/town 2/3/4 gear blatting about. Much better over Brisbanes patched up uneven bitumen roads. Very smooth with no tramlining at all. I havent pushed them hard but I doubt you'd take them to the track. They seem to be quiet but that sort of thing doesn't bother me so I could be comparing them incorrectly. They are much better at grip away from lights than Dunlops. Dunlops were very very easy to spin. KU31s grip much better. A really good tyre for most GTI owners IMO. I paid $169 per corner fitted (dont know how others get them for $120/$130 fitted) on the Gold Coast.
