And presumably weight less. Thoughts on tracking a smaller tyre overall?

I think the weight difference was insignificant in providing the superior grip - certainly I was able to set faster times with the 205 width A048's than the 195 A048's

By smaller overall, do you mean smaller diameter? I think it would generally help by reducing the gearing as road gearing is too high for most tracks.

Apology in advance if this is the wrong thread to ask this.

Can anyone please tell me if the following size rim is suitable for a 9N3 Polo GTi?

Anyone tried the Michelin Pilot Sport 3's at all?

Looking to go 215/45/16 (slim pickings) on a 16x7.5 wheel and take advantage of the extra rim width.

Stuwey I have had PS3s in 205/45 and 205/50 on mine. They're not track tyres but you won't miss anything on the street. I've had the car two years, one year of that at stage 3 and recently with the mcas, and to be really honest, I STILL come out of the odd corner thinking 'holy f*ck this thing is fast.' the tyres put up with what I throw at them. Under abnormally fast conditions I can get them to push barrelling into roundabouts too fast. But, you would rarely have too lanes of run off in the mountains and that's at a speed I'm fighting the instinct to touch the brakes. Otherwise a great street tyre which can be had cheap cheap occasionally.

Sounds great. Bob-Jane bloke today was trying to talk me into a Continental (couldn't even tell me which one) but I wasn't interested. Call me intrigued, might have to hunt some down!

any opinions on hankook ventus r-s3 z222? I have yoko AD08R's as dailys that will double for bi monthly hillclimbs. The yoko's are amazing (although very sketchy at low speed in the wet) but they are 235 a corner whereas the hankooks are 190.
    anyone tried the hankooks?

    Car - 2007 Polo GTI
    Rim Size - Speedline 16x7.5
New Tire - Michelin Pilot Sprt 3
    Tire Size - 215/45/16
Price $185 per corner fitted and balanced
Thoughts on New Tire - Plush, quiet, and very smooth on the road. Haven't tried the grip limit but in the 10 minutes it takes from home-to-work that's hardly an issue. They seem to have less rolling resistance too.

Tire Replaced - Potenza RE002 215/40/17 - I'd have had some more Potenzas, if they made a size to suit

215/45/16 how common is that as a size? Would have chosen that over the 205/50 if it'd been available. Got a picture?
