in nsw they are more concerned with maintaining load ratings of the tyres, keeping speed ratings above 140km/h and are strict on wheel offsets. Going up from a 45 to 50 profile would be fine I'd have thought.

It's 15mm limit in qld and I thought that was national.

I'm now running the Federal RSRR in a 215/45/17. Grip is awesome, I actually got a new PB on this tyre over the previous Kumho V70 semi slicks I ran. They start making noise when you're pushing them whereas the semi's I've used haven't, they stayed predictable and braking performance was exceptional. Half the price of the semi's I've ran too.

Though I do have a set of Yoko A050's in soft compound sitting on a set a rims...

15mm change for road vehicle. 50mm for proper 4WDs (not pissant SUVs and AWD cars)

Hmm so 205/45 to 205/50 is technically illegal (+20mm) bugger.

I went to 195/55/15 on my car for the street and run R1R Toyo's. I could do that because the tyre placard in the filler cap lists right down to 185's and 195/55's is listed there too. In your situation 205/45/16 is the biggest wheel/tyre run on the car so yeah I guess legally you'd have to adhere to that. If you ran a 195/50/16 it'd probably be within 15mm but what choice of tyre you'd have I don't know.

    Car - 06 Polo GTI
Rim Size - 16x6.5 (stock wheels)
New Tyre - Yokohama Advan Fleva V701
    Tyre Size - 205/45/16
Tyre Replaced - Supercat (don't know model as they came on the car 3.5 years ago when i bought it)
    Km's On new Tyre - 500km
Thoughts on New Tyre - Compared to the old tyres they are fantastic. Having upgraded suspension (bushes and coilovers), i can actually feel it working now compared to before where it felt very vague. Alot less understeer and feels much more planted. Quieter ride and about similar comfort. I am very happy with their performance for quite a good price for one level under their semi slick.

Did you find out more about the 615's? Turns out that I can get them for $149 fitted (215/45r16)

No I spoke to a few people who sort of said that they were ok when they came out but that they haven't really evolved at all since then and that lots of street semis surpass them now so I gave them a miss. Pretty hard to beat RSR's and RSRR's, at their prices. At 215/45/16 the rolling diameter may be up a bit and if your lowered might rub but not sure I've never run anything wider than 205's on mine. Check the 4 digit build number on the sidewalls. It'd suck if they were cheap because they were made in 2013.
