Just bought Edra's Lenso rims with Kumho ecsta tires - 40 profile. Anyone got anything to report on this rubber?

My head hurts from look at tyres, any suggestions on what I can get in a 205/40/17 which looks good, works well and isn't going to cost me an arm and a leg? need to wrap my new wheels on tuesday, so far only thing I can find it that size are $400+ tyres which have been shot down in this thread as being ****.

Yeah I can't comment on those unfortunately since I have never owned a set. I will say however that the Dunlop Sportmax SP stock tyres that my polo came with have been an incredible tyre. Couldn't speak highly enough of these ones.
I did get a flyer in the mail the otherday with Hankook tyres being on sale nationally at the moment. They have some pretty decent high performance tyres. Might be worth sussing them out perhaps.
The other tyre a lot of members like is the Marangoni's and these seem to be pretty reasonably priced if you can source them.

They are a great handling tyre but way too soft with high ware rates... and that was on a lancer vrx!!!!

My T1R's are trucking along very well and have way more dry and wet grip than the stock Conti's... Braking is improved and the traction control comes on a lot less... The negative comments were aimed at the Toyo R1R I think.

The only thing with the T1R's is they feel a bit rubish and 'skatey' until you get about 500kms on them

oh sorry yeah probably was the R1R don't come in the size I need anway (any thing with a cool tyre pattern seems to be ****)

    T1Rs are around 300 no?

My usual tyre place sold up and the new owners are crap, burned down my mates car so don't really trust them on giving me good tyre advice.

Look at the Federal 595 RS-R...I am sure you can get them in a 205 or 215/40 R17, they wear really well(I have had mine on for over 24,000km, and still have about another 20,000km in them), and they are very grippy in the wet and dry.

I paid $185 for 205/45/16 so I doubt that going up to a 17" would add $100+ to the tyre price for a similar speed and load rating... Hell, four years ago I paid $170 for Falkens in 205/40/17 so my suggestion is you try a few different retailers

I got mine done at TyreWorks in Slacks Creek, QLD but I don't know if they have any outlets in Melbourne??
