    OEM to Performance Clutch?

    Hi Guys,

Considering putting an ECS Stage 1 clutch in the GTI.

    Will this one fit?

    Volkswagen Golf IV 1.8T > Drivetrain > Clutch > ES#125 VW Stage 1 Clutch Kit (228mm) With Light Weight Steel ECS 14lbs Flywheel, 225-275hp - ESR198031S1

Is it worth paying extra for the 14lbs Flywheel rather than the 20.5lbs Flywheel?

    Thanks

Also, is there anything else I should be replacing at the same time?

i got the stage 1 with 14lbs SMFW. the only prob i had was the release bearing was damaged during transit. I only found that out AFTER i had removed the G/box and old clutch. The stage 1 is great. clutch pedal felt lighter and more responsive. Engine response felt the same. there is a noticeable gear rattle at idle but once you push the pedal in it goes away. Im not too fussed about it.

I went to the ECS site and the postage is nearly as much as the goods themselves, if you order 2 clutchs/flywheels the postage is halved.

I would probably be interested in a few months or so, I dont really need it yet, but seeing as the $$ is so good now, why not

    $540.82 USD for 1 or $934.50 for 2

    Which is $883 AUD /2 is $441.50

If you get more interest and can find someone locally to get it at a better rate, could get very cheap.

I'm interested to hear more about the rattle, is it audible outside and inside the car? How loud is it? Does it rattle on the MkIV?

Locally I think just the Clutch costs more than the Clutch and flywheel combo, I remember paying around $500 just for my VR6 clutch kit, I dont know who would sell a 14lb flywheel locally

I'm finding out the shipping weight, I usually use a US shipping service so i'd like to know how much that costs as an alternative.

Maybe we could do a group buy though? Post if your interested?

Anything over $1000 gets inport duties/taxes, so best to keep it under $1000

Why are you looking into this? You've only just got the car!
Unless the clutch is failing, there are far better places to spend money (like trackdays - hint)
