That's a monster gap Sam. I know you have new coilpacks but even still, it's big still.

I had the same idea of 0.04", read it somewhere. 0.025 seems about right.

How often would you recommend changing the spark plugs?

I'm still running the original battery (06), could a battery close to the end of its life be causing any dramas? Happy to replace, surprised its lasted the 7 years.

Hmm, thanks Gav and Jimmy. 0.040" gap is popular with the 2.0 coils for some reason. I'll try and gap them down to 0.030 and see what happens. I'm running Iridium plugs which some have advised against as well, so thinking of changing those out too...

I get so used to buying parts off ebay, my local Pep's had them for $5 a piece.
Think I'll start swapping them every oilchange (10,000).

I ordered a new dogbone mount (I guess its not really called that for our car?) / torque engine mount yesterday from GSL. Arrived today.

Just in time, when I went to drive it this morning there was a metal on metal sound under load. I opted to leave it and walk to work (better to be safe...)

Glad I did. I knew the old mount had perished, but I didn't know it was this bad.

Old one just fell out. New one pressed in with foot (pretty basic install)

I'm running the 0.040" gap, haven't noticed any improvement since changing the gap from stock, but noticed an improvement when initially doing the 2.0T coil swap.

Wow, that is utterly shagged out! So the 70 shore has a foam center to soften it. I guess the 90 shore race one is solid.

I would have expected more than 35,000km out of it, though

A 0.040" plug gap will work OK when everything is new an clean but will quickly cause misfires as the electrode erodes and things get dirty. Closing down the gap will give a "fatter" spark so it will ignite as well as a the longer spark with a big gap.
I'd say people do it (0.040" gap) because with the red coil packs, they can (for a while)
