Yeah - I've been complaining about the no 3 door in the Golf R for weeks now. But its even more ridiculous in the Polo GTI. I've emailed Karl.Gehling@volkswagen.com.au - but apart from getting an out of office (to say he's been in the office all week) and his mobile number, I've had no reply.

Has anyone at any other Australian VW forum started a thread or petition or something that we can sign to say we want the 3 door models?

What you have to remember is that the DSG is a manual, and your right foot is controlling the clutch and accelerator. a little throttle to engage the clutch, then push down.

This engine has 240Nm of torque at 1700 rpm or thereabouts. It doesn't have to rev. Does take a bit of getting used to especially if, like me, your usual car doesn't wake up under 3000 rpm.

If it has a D for dummy or S for stupid then look elsewhere ..... :rolleyes:

Miss out on instant gearchanges, rev matching (especially in S), easier in traffic etc.

I drove the Golf for the first time in a while the other day, and the hesitation seemed better (6500 kms on the odo). You do need to drive a DSG differently than either a manual or slushbox, however.

If you want to drive a bad automated manual, find a Mercedes Sprinter van with the Sprintshift transmission.

Popular misconception that .... it only makes 240NM IF your foot is flat on it ... at part throttle you only have a portion of it and not the FULL 240NM ..... :rolleyes:

And my normal car makes over 400NM at 2000rmin so 240NM is puny ....

Aaah thanks. Do they have another 1.2L which is only 3 cylinder? Cause when I was looking at the new Polo at least two different car magazines from the UK said 3 cylinder!

Yes, and it's the same capacity, so the confusion is understandable. It produces 44kW instead of the 77kW the TSI version puts out.
