Thread: New Polo GTi

  1. #11

I've driven the Polo TDI and it's impressive. Instant reponse, hardly any lag and 5.2L/100km city/highway. You wouldn't buy it to save money over the petrol version - you'd buy it for its instant throttle response. 240Nm/2000rpm takes the hard work out of driving a small car - no hard revving required. Suspension a bit soft and marshmellow-like if you push really hard but it's not a sports car, is it?

Overall quality really good. Car I drove was SA build but also come out of Spain, apparently. If it had a few more options like MFA and felt more luxurious I'd buy one over the Polo GTI.

SA meaning South Africa? (Obviously not South Australia!) I once had a Merc 300D (rare manual) that was South African built and it was extremely well put together. Let's hope the Polo is the same.

Appears to be a lot of problems with the SA Golfs.
