I agree - I looked at the usual suspects - XR4, Ralliart Colt, Swift Sport, Mazda SP23.

The GTI was the superior choice. And just gets better every day unlike most cars.

The Recent Wheels comparo was spot on in virtually everything they said on the cars - it was a good review.

thanks for the info all . if you get the car chipped do you loose the warranty ?

I have done 1600 ks now and happy with the car, i drive to work very early in morning so i can hear lots off noise and i have been driving with the stereo off just so i can hear the car run, nice. , i was tossing up between a Suzuki swift sport and the xr4 or a second hand wrx or evo but went the polo.
Hope you all have a good new year

You only lose the warranty if you actually tell VW what you have done, or if they can relate a warranty claim somehow to the chip.

Go for the APR upgrade and you can switch back to standard before going anywhere near a VW service centre. Also supposedly undetectable to VW....

Do it, it turns it from a mildly sporty hatch into a firebreathing little monster. Its worth every cent...

APR is undectable if you take it to a VW dealer. Reason I went for the APR remap!

Yup I second that. Seb is at Girraween and is your man for GIAC chips, same power, still undetectable, you can switch it off and is usually a bit cheaper then the others. As Adam says he is 10-15 minutes away.

    Enjoy the new car

Not at all a dumb Q. One thing you will discover is that different chips for VAG cars stir up some strong feelings, leading to chip wars so we'll try to avoid that

They are both very good, both about the same power, about 150kw. The big diff is switching programs. APR uses the wiper stalk to switch between programs, whilst GIAC uses a box that plugs into a port under the dash. They are both undetectable. APR is more expensive, however if you buy the GIAC switch box the prices get a lot closer. IMO it'll come down to what you can afford and who is closer. There are other players out there such as Revo, can I suggest using the search function to find out lots of info.
