New Dyno Result @ Torque Performance

Hi guys, had another dyno day today in reasonably warm Auckland weather. This was at Torque Performance, Auckland which gives fairly accurate results.

I have been trying to achieve 140kw at wheels with current setup. And yes, I failed, but I think mainly because of 'intercooler' issues. The car was one idle for a while, and had a few setting up was required at dyno as my car was the first car on the roller. So it was sitting there for sometime at low speed. There was no fan through the side mount intercooler. Fan was only large enough to cover the radiator.

It did 136kw at wheels with 22.3 psi at peak. When I had it done in 2008 November (slightly cooler temp with 20 degree ambient), it made 127kw at wheels. Noticeably as mentioned with previous fellows here, that second run was less at 130kw, and I am sure it would have dropped even further after. Between runs were matter of 30 seconds or less. I do need FMIC.

I still believe, that the car power on road at cool temperature would be 140kw at wheels, and that's how I feel.

Performance upgrades are as below, mainly REVO stage 1 (can't get hold of REVO dealer for stage 2 ), Forge DV, K&N filter, PD160 intake and custom down pipe, and ECS clutch kit.

The next car in comparison was B5 RS4 which made 228kw at wheels. (so that you have some comparison).

I am reasonably happy with 136kw. However, it's good to know that with 4bar pressure regulator, the car runs slightly richer which was previously mentioned last time, that it was running slightly lean at RPM above 6000. Now the AFR is very good and in safe region.

Also, I know that I need FMIC to get that extra little to get that 140kw consistently.
I will try to upload the video.

    Good results mate!

I'm just in the phase of working through VAG-COM to see what is going on, my car runs fine, just not the beast it should be...

136 is good, should have no complaints there...

    Mods:
    1) REVO I think 7,6,6 (boost 7)
    2) 4 bar fuel pressure regulator
    3) PD 160 + K&N
    4) Forge DV valve
    5) 98 BP fuel
    6) Custom made 3" down pipe to cat, deleted factory resonator before the muffler.
    7) ECS flywheel / clutch kit stage 1

That's it for the power mods. Other mods are mainly suspension.

I need Forge FMIC and Forge TIP for next + LSD for track days.
I think I will keep my little Pogo for longer!

And yes I love my 5 door...
By the way AFR at the high RPM was never below 12.4 I think. Last time it dipped below 12 I think.

Interesting about the 4Bar FPR, I've heard people advise against it, but if you are seeing the fruits of the change in your A/F's then its all working well...

    Do you have Vag com?

I'm working through some limitations with my car atm, thinking the APR tune may be limiting the cars potential now...

TIP does not make any real peak power improvement, but does help the flow.

Forge FMIC is great, I think its pretty reasonably priced for what you get...

noone - yes I agree, that TIP does not make any performance gains, but I think it all adds up to 'response' of the car, especially at the top end. I have compared the torque of previous dyno to today's. There is more difference there. Torque is increased throughout from about 2000-5500, it's broader than previous torque curve. I think this is where I feel that it's heaps faster than how it previously was.

The fuel consumption did increase a little, but not by much. My average is still 8.5 litres / 100km. This is including track days and daily commute in peak traffic.

I do have a VAGCOM, did you want me to do some logging and compare our findings? I haven't logged before, I mainly use it for playing around with settings and check for faults. Dyno did cause rear ABS to cause intermittent fail both left and right, so I reseted that.

I'd love to see what your car is reading for measuring 115, I'm starting to log my data in the Vag-com thread here so I can try and track down where my Polo is being limited.

I've collected a fair amount of data, but now I need to know what to do with it all!

What settings have you changed with Vag-com?

I t would be worthwhile logging the mixture with the 4 BAR FPR. If the software is written for a 3 BAR I would expect the ECU to attempt trimming out the excess fuel.

Thanks Kiel. I got one from ECStuning.com. Finally found another REVO dealer who is 300km away from me. I will drive down to get stage 2 done in May.

I love the little polo GTI's, if they had had a DSG back when I got my golf....
