Need Help Changing Aerial Base and Mirror Indicator

Hi guys,

I'm looking for some help in changing a few parts on my recently acquired 08 GTI.

As per the title of the thread I'm hoping to change the roof antenna base as the existing gasket has become brittle and has begun falling apart. As well as the drivers side mirror indicator.

Can anyone give me any idea on how to change either of these parts?

Pop the top of the mirror off, should show the skeleton of the mirror and the globe underneath

I replaced the aerial recently - fairly easy job.

Pop off the rear upper cover panel. You need to unclip the headling across the back and down one side. Gently fold lining away (no hard folds) so you can (a) unlpug the lead and (b) get access to the nut under the aerial.

Might as well buy yourself a cheap bee sting aerial for an updated look.

I think the rubber around the antenna base is mainly for aesthetics. it has another seal between the body and the base i believe.
I just replaced the rubber with one from a mkIV golf that i modified myself by cutting the inside out and stretching it over the base. Looks much better even though it is slightly too big.
