    ^This.

Mine is an 08 build but first registered last week, classified by VicRoads as a 2009, but classified by VW as a MY08. I have it insured as a 2008, I should probably verify this now though.

Funny all this stuff with the MY numbers ... I picked up mine in November 2008 (1 yr birthday next Wednesday) ... mine is a MY09 by the VIN codes manufactured in late Jul '08. Also, found that there is a "big" difference between the MY08 and MY09 ... MY09 link ... lol

Anyways, by that doco, anything manufactured post 26 May 2008 is considered an MY09 and would have the massive change of a different interior monitoring button ... such drastic changes !

Hmm now I have to check the exact date of mine, as I remember the build plate saying May 2008 but not sure which day.

That interior monitoring button symbol is a HUGE change, going to be a selling point in future so I hope mine is the newer type

To be honest, I don't think it's going to matter too much, looking at the used prices. My car is in immaculate condition and has done less than 25,000 kms, so I shouldn't do too badly I reckon. Dealer offered me 16k for it, I reckon if I manage to sell it myself I can do better. We'll see!

    Thanks for the info guys!

16K ~ What a joke. You definitely could get more selling it privately.

But that's them, isn't it? Stealers, not dealers. I will point out that it wasn't the VW dealer (tested a passat CC), although when push comes to shove, they'd probably do the same.

Well, I'm going to put the advert up this weekend and see what I get.

16k is not such a terrible price for the year and km's on the car. When I traded my 07 Polo GTI with 29km I got 3 different offers from 3 different dealers: 13k, 15k and the one I accepted was 18.5k. And this was 9 months ago

Unfortunately the second hand market is such an unpredictable beast, but if you are not in a hurry to offload and have the patience you should get close to what you want. GL with the sale.

Sorry to dig up an oldie - but is there any difference in MY06-MY07 and/or MY07-MY08 Polos (GTIs)?

There was one major change in mid 06, and that was the gearbox. The early cars came with a HWY box, this was changed around May i believe.

I don't have the newer code with me, I can post later. I will also see what other changes I can dig up.
