Lift the carpet in the boot and there will be a build plate saying what month and year the car was made. The plate is black if I remember correctly.
I'm looking to sell my GTI on carsales. Thing is, I don't know if I have an MY06 or an MY07 car.
I bought it in December 06. Is there an easy way to find out?
Cheers peeps

The 10th digit on your VIN represents the MY - i.e. 6 is 2006, 7 is 2007, etc.
I think its possible to have an Oct 06 build, Dec 06 compliance that's MY07, so I suggest working it out that way.

The ONLY date that matters to the buyer is the build date.
Not always on cars built overseas.
For example, I owned a MY05 WRX WRP10. They only put the limited edition WRP10 on sale on May '05, but the actual build dates of the cars were Nov '04.
Subaru Aus had the cars delivered, applied the STi upgraded parts and limited edition badging as part of their compliancing process, then rebadged the build to be '05.
Seeing the line was only released in '05 for sale they are considered '05 cars.

Assuming there is actually any difference between the years, I'd agree with Break.
Mine is a late 07 build, I think 08 model... but buggered if I know if there is any difference between an 07 and 08.
the only difference I know between 06 and 07 is the boot doesn't have an external lock on it from 07 onwards.
And someone correct me, the MY is a subaru designation, not a generic vehicle name??
I think you're missing my point.
I'm saying some manufacturers consider the build date on the car the day they compliance it, not when it was actually built overseas.
What you're referring to is a 2007 built car, that is built to MY08 specifications. This is still an '07 model for all resale purposes.

I have been told that Manufaturing year is just like the finacial year, so an MY08 would be the 07/08 Finacial Year.
