    Thanks all,

I have already been to the Doc, and filled all necessary Compo paper work.
Starting to get really sore now, arm is hurt from Bracing/ stiffening up just before the hit..

I'm not interested in colour coding and doing parts black ECT, the car is for work purposes, I leave it everywhere so I do not want to attract too much attention.

I don't think it will be a write off, but as some of you have said, the side did crumble as it was Pretty DAAMM hard hit!
I'm extremlt pleased about the way the car held up, I would of thought that the rear windscreen should of smashed, along with the rear lights, but all seems ok.
I have just come in form out side , I took a good look at the roof and it does not seem to be kinked ect....

Just the thought of the parts list on this is giving me a head ake !!hahaha

Ohh well, the poor bitch has now had it Greek Style BIG TIME , and then though bugger it, If I have just been rammed up the ass, I'm going to Ram the one in front HAHAHHA..

Ohh the car that hit me was a Hyudai Tuscan 4x4 and pushed me into a Lancer..Lance did not have too much damage, but the 4x4 was leaking **** everywhere, would not start..There she sat Bleeding !!..

    Mine was still running hahahahah.

Anyway, I'll miss the little beast while it gets repaired ...if it's repairable...

Thanks again for all the kid words.

I am so sorry to hear about your accident. Just like you said, it's worst when it wasn't your fault!!

At least the person who hit you couldn't make a run, and most important of all! You are here after accident to write on the forum!

As for the car, like for car enthusiasts like us, it hurts to see our car like that, but hopefully it's a write off and you can get a brand new one!

As per airbag, it looks as though, the impact on the front was not significant enough to set it off. If you were hit from the front, it's likely they have deployed. I think the quarter panels took the impact well, and you must have hit the front 'not as hard' as you think.

In regards to being checked out by the doctor, as a health professional, the GP won't be able to do much if you go in. However, if your symptoms do get worse by any stage, including abdo pain, or neck pain, make sure you go into GP or directly to ED. You will need further investigations in those circumstances. Do not go to physiotherapist directly at any stage (GP wil assess and refer you). And I will advise against chiropractors. (they are not very popular within doctors)

Anyway, all the best, and you will need some rest.

Stiff neck would be expected, but should not be very very sore. Or should not get any tingling sensation down your arms. (or changes / parasthesia / weakness).

    Just look out for signs!

    God speed with recovery!

sorry to hear about your accidend mate, good thing is that you are ok. now you can brag about how strong the Polo is!! My ex had a Polo match and got rear-ended by a magna doing about 70km/h. None of the airbags go deployed. The car was a write-off, but she was ok, except for a bruise on her cheek, she hit the steering wheel with her head. maybe they should put airbag sensors under the rear bumper as well. I've told her a thousand times not to sit too close to it, but women will always be women.

Anyway, good luck with everything, i hope they give you a new car!

Sorry to hear about the prang Mr GTI.

As a recent fellow prangee i understand your pain.

Mine was not as bad as yours - just the rear quarter panel needs to be replaced which is $4,000.

I'm guessing yours with the same but also front and rear damage is probably more like $9 - $12,000 so unfortunately I doubt they'll write it off.

Airbags are incredibly violent and will sometimes do more harm than they prevent.

The fact that you weren't really injured (as in, your brain sitting in your lap or your heart impaled on the steering column) would suggest they only deploy in a SERIOUS accident for the reason that they are very violent. And expensive.

Mate, sorry to hear about your crash. The most important thing is that you look after yourself and let the insurance deal with the car.

In regards to airbags, when they first came out, there were cases where people actually died because the airbag popped out in a low impact crash. If you hit the car in front of you doing a speed of about 20km/h, then the body of the car would absorb most of the impact and it would have done more harm than good for the airbag to deploy in that situation.

If the car behind you had an airbag, and hit you at 60ks, i would expect that one to go off. So don't be too surprised or disappointed that the airbag didn't deploy.

    Airbags not deployed

    Hello mate,

God, I am really sorry this happened to you ! I was in the same situation when my dad's new 5 Series BMW was hit by an SUV with a bloody bullbar. The damage was similar (dent in the C pillar) as we were pushed approximately 10 metres into a Polo in front of us. The six airbags the car was equipped with didn't deploy also - apparently these are mostly just for high impact frontal crashes. It took two to three days before I suffered the actual consequences of the impact in terms of heavy headaches etc. The car was a write off. Since that happened, I have been approaching red traffic lights and traffic jams etc. with much greater distance as well as caution and also much slower, however the people in Sydney don't like it. I have also driven significantly slower than before (the accident was 7 years ago but still) and impatient people keep bloody honking or something, yet this doesn't impress me very much.

All the best and keep us posted on the news please !!

Hope you're okay - that looked like a BIG rear end shunt. The biggest concern with being rear-ended is always whiplash - the Polo's seats are pretty supportive and would have helped somewhat, but it's good to hear you've been checked out by the doctors.

Airbags are triggered by an accelerometer - namely one that is measuring rapid deceleration. Regardless of the damage of the car - if a big rear end shunt just pushed your Polo forward and crushed it against the car in front - the car wouldn't have decelerated that hard (think about how quickly a car stops under heavy braking), and the airbags not triggered.
