Mkv golf gti edition 30 steering wheel in polo gti?

Hey guys been a long time since I've posted and done any mods to the pogo so now I've got the itch again and want to swap over my polo gti steering for the golf mkV gti edition 30 steering wheel (non multifunction and manual). I know someone here has done the r32 wheel but want to know if its a direct swap over and of the polo airbag unit will fit or do I need to fork out for a golf air bag too?

    Cheers guys.

FYI, if you change an airbag fitted wheel (even just to another airbag fitted wheel) then the car legally needs to be listed as having the airbag deployed for safety reasons.

Sure, you can just not tell anyone... but you may find your insurance company may not be so forgiving if they discover a non-factory steering wheel in the car in the event of a crash.

Same steering wheel as the R32 except with red stitching as far as I know.

Thanks for the heads up. Was not aware of that. I guess I better find out with my insurance company first eh?

But if its all fine and dandy with the insurance company, does anyone know if the airbag unit from the polo willl fit it or do I need to get a mkV one? I asked the local VW dealer for prices and its pretty exxy around $1200-$1400 for the airbag unit.

    Cheers.

I am pretty sure that there was talk about this about 18-24mnths ago on the forum. Maybe hunt around the threads and there should be more info.

I had a feeling someone might mention this and yes I did do a good search but nothing came up that was specific to my questions hence the post. Thanks for the suggestion anyway. Was hoping to change the steering wheel so it gives the interior a bit of new zing and individuality not to mention some style too.
But so far, everyone I've asked including dealers and independent vw worshops have no clue and are unable to advise on this. If the airbags weren't so expensive then I'll definately give it a stab cause at least i know the steering wheel does fit and has been done in the past. Just the cluelessness of the reuse of the polo airbag or needing a new golf one is the deciding factor whether to go ahead or not.

Thanks for all your suggestions and help in advance.

Here's someone who changed the steering wheel and says that he used the old airbag unit with no problems:

I did it with a 30th anniversary Ed and used the original Polo airbag. The only thing that didn't match were the little plastic clips on the front left and right of the wheel.
