Hi All,
I'm trying to find out why makes the Polo TIP special that means that MKIV/TT/Beetle TIP's are unable to fit?
Is it something major (ie. it fouls with something), or is it just that it doesn't line up with a factory hose somewhere?

Is it just me, or is it just missing that vacuum line up near where the MAF connects? Surely you could find an easy way to do away with this?
Edit: Looking at this page it appears the connection is a simple check valve, which should be able to be redirected and/or removed (with an appropriate resistor fitted if necessary)....
...or am I talking crap?

Is there a problem with the Polo one or you are trying to save yourself a few $$$ by using one of the others?
The most important thing is that its designed for the transverse motor config and the flanges / connections are all the same size.

Sweet, exactly what I was after. Seeing I'm not running the factory airbox the length probably won't be an issue.
My stock TIP is collapsing under high load, and I can't justify the $180'ish for a Forge one when I can get a quality branded MKIV GTI one for half of that.

I understand where you are coming from. TBH, if you are going to install yourself, its a hard enough job with the correct TIP, I'd hate to have to try it again with a TIP that was not designed for the car.
Are you sure its collapsing? How can you tell? The Mk4 guys seem to think the Mk4 one did, but thats a different tip on a different car...
Yeah, I'm fairly certain it's collapsing. I'm still getting 'surging' in 3rd onwards (constant undulating between 16psi and 20psi) and it's definitely not the diverter valve, and seeing I'm running a free flowing intake now it can't be air starvation from the MAF forward... which leads me to believe that the TIP is the likely candidate.
I was going to bypass the N249 for some testing to see if the N249 is affecting it... but I doubt it.

I don't think the surging is going to be caused by a collapsing TIP.
I'm not familiar with the Giac tune, but many people with surging issues with the 1.8T when tuned have worked around it by changing the N75 or bypassing the N249.
I'd be looking to the tune not working well with something, if the N249 is trying to regulate your boost and not doing it very well, you could just crimp the vacuum tube to see if it stops. This will create too much pressure on the diverter valve so it wont open, you will be the turbo flutter sound... Not ideal but a very quick test.
As for the N75, the J version has worked well for many people and may be more compatible with your tune.
If you are still on the collapsing path, you should be able to log the MAF values with Vagcom and see the fluctuation pretty easily.
All in all, the TIP is not a cost effective upgrade IMO and if you are only doing it to fix an issue, I'd be looking elsewhere or confirming the issue first.
Yep, exactly the plan mate. Eliminate other possibilities first (N249/N75) and then look at the TIP.
Still, the key point here is it looks like its possible to use another TIP so long as you don't use the factory airbox.
