mental 1.8T headed engine

I found link to these vids on a british hillclimb site. Its a 1.8T 20V head on a 1170cc block of some sort. Maybe they destroked our block?? Truly mental though.

This has been built to get it under 2litre, normal FIA turbo multiplier is 1.7

do you happen to know if its a de stroked 1.8T block or some kind of custom billet thing?

actually it might be a VAG 1.8 block. I found this other car here:

and it uses reduced bore and stroke to achieve 1.4 L.
The old british hillclimb multiplier for turbo to NA equivalency was lower last year. This guy would be in over 2.0L now. Notso Swift is dead right about that first car I put up. Their multiplier is now 1.7 too, to standardise internationally ( it is the same for me here in nsw hillclimbs) so thats why it had been built to 1170cc to stay in the current 2.0L class. Best bet would be that the car in the first post has been sleeved and de stroked even more and it may be a 1.8T block.

I should add, 81mm bore 1.8, 20v, would be a 56.7 stroke...that is really, really Short, obviously a custom crank

The Dialynx car has run in Europe as over 2 litre before, my understanding is that it is undergoing some changes. The U.K. for racing below national level (like the sprinting that car was built for) used 1.4, which the FIA, and Australia, moved away from during the Group A era, 1986 if I recall. So the 1.4 litre was an anomaly

I would love to know what the bore spacing is on all the VW block "series" and the minimum bore to fit the 20v head (valves clearing the walls)

If the bore spacing for one of the 1.1 motors was right and the head was to work on a (say) 72.5 bore, which is still over square, I would bet that is a winner

Yeah, but how awesome! Next question, how hard can you push the valves before they bounce or start pulling back through the exhaust valve seats?!

There is something immensely cool about such a compromised engine. Like a PP rotary you know? Just damn cool.

yeah I hadn't thought of that. How the hell else would three inlet valves clear the walls if the bore is taken right in. How much work must have gone into that. You can see why so many formula libres etc cars run busa's.
