Lowering- How much does it cost/point me in the right direction :)

Yes, i used to search function on this one and i've come up with no definitive answer (if there is already a thread then feel free to point me in the right direction).

Just a question for those of you riding a little lower than others. How much did it cost and where did you get it done?

    Cheers

$300 for lowering springs if you just want to do it for looks (and don't mind shagging your OE dampers)
$500 for cheap coilovers (which aren't much better, if at all, except that they let you go lower)
$1000+ for a good cup kit (lowering springs + dampers) which will also improve the handling of the car
$1500+ for good coilovers that also will improve the handling of the car and go lower

Basically, you get what you pay for.

I'm working in Thredbo this season and I've got H&R Springs that aren't much use with snow chains.
If you are interested in going the cheap option, I could do a swap with your original springs, plus some cash my way?
The H&R springs lower the car by about 35mm

    Here is my actual car.

    PM me if you're interested.

I've tried a few, springs only, cheap coilies, now KW coilovers. Also, Seat control arm bushes, upgraded swaybars, replaced top hats and bearings for the front suspension.

Install will cost 300-600 depending on the shop.

Personally I'd be looking at decent coilovers, Weitec. Try DPM performance in the UK, well priced. Damien I think is who I dealt with.

Springs only was the first path I took. Fine most of the time, but when they are not great you'll wish you had spent a little more. Too much undulation at speed, some big bumps were not well absorbed by the mis-matched shocks (shocks and springs are supposed to be matched).

Cheap coilies is a hard one as this depends on what you define as good or comfortable want and what you are willing to spend. Lots of decent options around 1k landed. As our dollar has dropped, might be a little more.

    If you are going to do your springs, I'd think about changing the following as well;
    - front suspension bearings / top hats
    - front control arm rear bushes
These parts perish, so depending on the age of your car, may be getting close to worn. Makes sense to do these at the same time as the car is already worked on in those areas.

A few threads on the topic, the additional bits might be supplied from DPM, used to be able to get from Awesome GTI, prob still can.

I'm running FK AK Streetlines which are not that bad. Whilst not in the league of say KW v3's for example, they are ok. Got them landed in a week from a place called performance 3000 in the UK for AUD $430. Look them up on eBay UK. There are of course, better and more expensive options out there and it all comes down to what you pay for. If you plan on tracking your car I would go for more expensive coilies but for daily use there fine.

I got a quote from DPM Performance for the following late last year:
    Bilstein B8 dampers - £374.20
    H&R springs - £109.20
    Postage - £125.00

This is the setup I'll probably end up going with.

Why not Bilstein's B12 kit? £445 + postage at DPM now (the springs are Eibach Pro-Kits with the B8 dampers)

Mine are great aside from being a bit harsh when driving the family around
