2006 GTI Polo - Big Turbo Build - Louis19's Build Thread
Hey Lads, The polo will be undergoing some new mods in the coming months so keep your eyes peeled for upcoming parts I'll be looking to move on once we move into our new place and get a chance to get it up on stands. One of which is the addition of the wheels I got a few weeks ago. They are Advan racing RG's 16x7.5. I got a great deal on them but the factory paint was chipping badly so I'm restoring them.
I used paint stripper to remove the bulk of the paint, then they were off to the sandblasters to remove the remaining paint and give a nice even finish ready for recoating.
Still undecided on what colour I'll go but it'll likely be a dark grey.

Bastard!!! I hunted for at least two years for a set of 16" RGs but never found any. My favourite, up there with Rega's!
Cheap, Fast, Reliable. Choose two.
So here it is, the start of the new chapter for the polo and I. Recently I purchased a second hand engine from Sydney which will be the base of the build I'm about to embark on. The new engine has just 74,000kms on it (which is 100,000k less than my current engine). Over the past few months I have been collecting bits and pieces while we were in the process of purchasing our new house. I still have plenty to buy but will be buying those parts in the coming weeks.
The new setup for the the car will be as follows:
- Garret GT3071R .063 Turbo
- Bartek Top mount manifold
- External wastegate
- Plazmaman single pass FMIC with 2.5" pipe work
- Bosch 1000cc injectors
- IE forged rods
- Calico race bearings
- ARP bolts
- ECS Stage 2 Clutch and lightened flywheel
- New custom intake
- New Downpipe
- IE Intake Cam (once they return in stock)
I'll leave the head stock for now other than porting out the intake side, with the option to build it up later down the road. With this new setup I think a ball park figure of 400hp is where we will aim, with the turbo running plenty in reserve.
I'll try and keep this thread as up to date as I can as I progress through the process.

good stuff. I'll be watching this. What are you thinking with the custom inlet manifold - passenger side feed? Are you staying small port head?
Thanks Sam. Intake manifold will stay in the stock orientation. Pipe work will just run from the turbo across to the passenger side then through the fmic up to the intake manifold on the driver side again.
I'll be still using the BJX head but porting the intake side to match my large port intake manifold I'm running. I believe exhaust ports sizes are the same size on all 1.8t heads, it's only the intake side that differentiates "small" and "large" port heads.

Here's an update for those interested. Not much to say, just been spending time stripping down the new engine, mounting the new FMIC and adjusting the bumper to suit it in prep for the new pipe work to come. Had the Advans sandblasted then powder coated, with tyres being put on this week. A heap of parts arrived, with more in the way.
The side by side comparison is next to a TTE280.
Here's some pics I've taken along the way.
