Did my first replacement of the gasket and bolts on pologti's car yesterday. I was dreading the worst but after doing cat convertors on V5 Passats I found it wasnt too bad to do. Removal of the heat shield accross the back of the head made life very easy and possible to get the tension wrench on the front bolt.
If there is any more problems with Robs Polo then I will remove the complete maniflod and turbo and check for warpage.
VW were'nt interested in fixing his car as they said it was the only one in Australia that had had this problem!!! Rubbish VWA, thats a dumb thing to email anyone that has invested in their product. Maybe they are trying to lose potential re-buyers of their future products???

That's just stupid and faulty logic - if there is a problem with only 1 car then there is still a problem and they should be fixing it (no matter how difficult it is for them to find the cure).

    Hope you have some success.

Thanks mate, and for Robs sake, I hope its fixed at last for him.
I also reflashed it with the APR Polo upgrade and he reported nothing but praise for it today, though, he hasnt been able to drive the thing for 5 weeks while he haggled with the dealer and then VW to get it fixed!!!
As he was denied a 4th attempt fix he gave up and waited till I had a space in my books to fix it for him.
Out of interest, they certainly dont look like stretch bolts and also, the old ones were finger tight on removal. The book says to tension them to 30 nms but I tensioned the new bolts to 34nms and that was with lube under the head of the bolt and on the washer. A lot of people overlook that and the friction when tensioning makes a BIG difference.
    Time will tell....

Another thing with Robs Polo, the first time he took it into the dealers with the problem the fix was performed by a fella on his second day of work experience. I know him and he came into my workshop telling me about doing this repair. That repair lasted less than 3 hours too!!!

My dealings with vwa and the dealer have turned me off vws almost.
The car is great now after so many weeks with out a car its like having a brand new one all over again .
Cant get the smile off my face.
The Apr programe seems to be sweet as well 3rd just pulls like a train, love it.

I just got this problem, i was driving and heard it blowing, i got it on the ramp and it was the turbo bolts on the manifold, they were all finger loose and required a few turns to tighten! I have just done them up but i know they will come loose so im gunna book into a specialist next week! my car has done 20,000miles and has extensive mods and uprated engine mounts! THEY ARE CRAP TO GET TO!!!

My car is at VW service today for the turbo bolt reason.

they say they have never ever heard of this problem before me.

I told them to look online and check it out..

They almost had a heart attack when they saw my FMIC, full exhaust system, boost Gauge and then I told them it was chipped as well.. Well it dont take einstein to work out I would have chipped it as well, so I just told them so they dont reflash it.

I told them it has a chip but I run the stock program 99% of the time...

They said they would check out the bolt problem and let me know..

Until then Im driving a courtesy car Golf 1.6 auto.....G-U-T-L-E-S--S

Make sure they do it right.
You will need new bolts new paste and a gasget. If its not done right with in hours they will be loose again.
Hope it all goes well good luck.
    Rob.
