I'm a bit concerned now because when starting it cold there does seem to be some slight wheezing sound coming from the engine and the metallic jingling. havent really taken much notice. but since I read this thread the other day it's made me think. Bit worried now. Dave did it get much louder before you decided to take it to the dealer? My car has done just over 18,000kms. Had it for 14 months.

Ok, here are some pics of the suspects!
Top left - the genuine replacement VW bolt, next right - the original VW bolt out of the turbo, next to that (long one) a 10.9 tensile bolt from a high flow manifold (for reference).
Gaskets : top left = graphite based cut performance gasket (good to about 900 deg C) top right = high performance ceramic based gasket
lower left = failed VW metal gasket (exhaust gas leaking past but caught before it destoyed itself) lower centre = failed ceramic gasket, lower right = new genuine gasket.
Oops - take the picture orientation as bolts at the top of the picture.....
Markings on the heads of the bolts:
the 4th bolt (far right) you can see the exhaust soot on it where the gasket was leaking.
And another closeup of the gaskets:
What! No close up of the scratches on Alex's arm and knuckles...c'mon Guy....show the whole, dirty truth....VAG needs to know about the pain and suffering
no blood - Alex has arms like ET, and he just loves removing & replacing turbo's on transverse engines
Anyway just found some 10.9 grade high tensile bolts, so I'm off to pick some up.
it was only the single bolt (close to the block) that came loose on ours this time - hence 1/2 the gasket looks good - the other half is vaporised
failing that, weld the c*#! of a things on!!!! lol
