Not trying to steal your thunder Jimmy. We know you need Martian days on Earth, to get enough hours in your days!

Hope you can make it Friday.

Not really sure how to take all this but here goes. First of all clicht's comment below

I can honestly say that 99% of all wheel, tyre, brake, suspension, performance, interior and exterior modifications have been researched, decided on, sort after and purchased by me and me alone. I have spend in excess of hundreds of hours on the web researching fitment, performance gains through combo's of certain parts you name it. As well as every setting and adjustment change to make the Devil even more fun along the way. Thinking back now I think the Seat IC is the only piece that makes up the Devil that I have bought from Jimmy and the idea and research of possible gains was completed and decided on by me. This is the first car I have ever modified to this degree and have no prior hands on mechanical training or back ground nor do any of my family of friends for that matter which is why I trust Jimmy to all the major work as I can't afford the downtime or mistakes if I were to majorly stuff up. But to say I'm not the brains behind the Devil I don't think is a fair comment.

    Next to Jimmy

I'm a bit taken back by this one to be honest. Before I tackle it I just want to tell everyone my reasons for starting the thread in the first place.

First and foremost was to thank everyone who had a role to play in the start of the Devil's journey. I always dreamed of taking this build all the way as it's probably going to be the only car I will be able to do this to in this lifetime and saw the potential in the Polo right from the start. Through this forum I met some top blokes who know their stuff and have made some good friends out of it. Please read my very first thread post and you will soon get my meaning. The second reason was to share the love with other green and inexperienced punters of the modifying scene just like me in the hope of helping them with their passion too. And the amount of questions I have received via PM about the build tells me that the thread has achieved that.

To add to the first reason was to help Jimmy as a bit of a marketing exercise for him. Some of you won't know that the Jmac empire started on weekends only helping out people from the forum in his back yard. He worked a normal full time nothing week which had nothing to do with Euros or any production cars for that matter. I was put in touch with him to put in my Koni's by Shane and after a few more trips for other bits and pieces we became pretty good mates and I started pushing him to give up the other gig that he was totally fed up with and have a go doing what he loved full time. (not taking all credit by any means as I'm sure there were others that saw his potential) So to help get his already good name out there even further I started this thread. Now believe or not it was only last week Jimmy and I caught up and he mentioned the very fact that the Devil and the build thread has brought him and is still doing so a fair bit of work over the past 5 years. Now during the 40 odd pages of the thread I have sung the praises of the superior workmanship carried out time and time again at his hand as have others. In fact check out my comments regarding the latest SEAT job. I'm really not sure where this comment is coming from "the hard work gets easily missed on mods, always been the same though so no surprises there. Just look at rally and F1 does the techs ever get mentioned??".

My only guess is you never read this other comment by clicht (the first forum member in line for one of your SEAT coolers)

So once again trying to help a brother out with selling a few of these great bits of gear I replied "Sorry mate, the Dyno is booked again on the days I could make it this week. Busy place! And the reason I can comment on boost levels is my Prosport gauge died which they have replaced under warranty but it's not wired up yet. I know it may sound like I'm just saying this because of all the trouble of changing IC but it's an animal now. And I'm going to post the dyno figures to back that comment up as soon as possible. If anyone can log boost levels that's in Brisbane please let me know I'll come to you!! The last 3psi increase I saw from changing the correctly rated spring in the DV saw a 13 atwhp increase. And previous testing has shown the Forge FMIC to drop about the same so I will be interesting to see. Will be happy with over 200 whp with the IC change."

I know the Dyno would tell all but James is flat stick and I wanted to prove I and Jimmy wasn't full of it. The next best thing is a boost reading right? Well this is where I wouldn't usually divulge this sort of thing but it backs up the point I'm eventually going to get to. The last visit to your place there were several things on the cards lined up for the Jmac treatment. One was the new power and earth wires to the gauge to we could see what impact the new cooler had and second and most ironic is I asked you to please log the peak boost on your test drive for the same reason and if the boost now went over 23 psi to please change to the higher rated spring and or shims for the DV to see if that would yet again yield more gains. Now this is where I need to say that Jimmy is busier than a one legged man in an ass kicking contest and the cooler took up most of the time that visit and I needed the car back for the next working week. Thus the point I mentioned earlier is he is just one man doing the ordering, invoicing, bookings, answering phone calls and emails and of course spinning the spanners.

So because of these facts I just through it out there for anyone who could help with one run in the Devil to log peak boost to get a reading for a comparison before I got back to the Dyno. The only reason I did this is

    1. help you move a couple of these and
    2. not bug you because you are flat out like a lizard drinking.

Yeah i know all good, i am flat out and jumped the gun there, you are right i do need more hrs its mental, and i should have logged the boost like Ant says i just clear flat out ran out of time and more than likely dont have time before the dyno, just passionate about the thing , i realise that all you guys were doing was trying to help so my bad, im stinging to see how it goes and what figures it gets.
Anthony you are right you have done most of the research mate and cant argue with that, and its been a fun and sometimes rollercoaster ride to get it where it is, but its shaping up to be one of the best. As we know forums and what can be written on them can be blown out and mis read, i probably worded it wrong and my bad for that, i cant agree more about the praise given in this thread and many others, cant thank people enough and i take great pride in all of it and many others. So i apologies if it has all been taken wrong. Yo are right before i started my own thing i was working a crap job i hated, but that was only an in between job till i saw where i was going next, and i will clarify i wasnt only doing jobs in the back yard for the forum members, i had plenty other jobs i had been doing for folk long before i fronted up on the forum, and just to clarify before i did the "nothing" job which was my choice to get away from dealerland that you all gripe about, i had been working on production cars , in fact high end stuff like Porsche, Audi and VW, in fact i started in 1988 straight from school to VW/Audi and trained in VW HQ, so dont think that the "not working on production cars for that matter" statement really makes any difference, before that i served my apprenticeship in the UK with VW/Audi and was at that dealership for 10yrs odds, did my factory training in Milton keynes VW HQ, and worked on Aircraft for 5yrs, worked at Porsche,VW and Audi here most of time ive spent here in Aus with exception to 3 of that being with Boeing, so only had the Non Euro or production car job for around 12mnths , so not overly sure what that statement meant , i have 24yrs VW and Audi experience just to clarify, and i think that is a fair bit s, and knew i had to get back at it as you are right i was more passionate about that than anything else and thats half my battle and yep you are right im too busy now so maybe have to think about next stage, we have talked abut that many times too. Time will tell suppose.
Back onto the important stuff, lets see how this thing goes on the day, looking forward to it.

    Cheers

Can't seem to hit the sweet spot with the extra power The goodyears are a great all round performance tyre but are a pretty hard compound and not very sticky at all especially at 38psi. The best 0-100 time I’ve logged with a heap of wheel spin and cold tyres is 6.2s so will have to practice.

Ben, no mate no retune done yet. Gavin and I did some logging just before the intake, reg and MAF went on so we are keen to do some more this week to compare the airflow and do some math. He said the increased volume of air should be directly proportionate to the power increase or something like that.

Do I think I have 197.5kw atw....... sadly no although the car does feel really bloody quick atm. I have driven tunes polo’s with K04’s and they aren’t nearly as wild as the Devil feels at the moment. Don't forget the pulls are done in 2nd gear so ratios are way off compared to 4th which should give the closest to 1:1 ratio. Just didn’t feel like going to jail before Christmas by revving out 4th on a public road.

Also I’m yet to play with all the other correction settings the G-Tech has to offer such as drivetrain losses, differential and rolling resistance losses, aero dynamic losses such as frontal area and coefficient drag. And then of course vehicle and driver weight. I just ripped it out of the wrapping and went for it so when I have some spare time I will dial everything properly. Still glad to see an increase anyway.
Hi, did you end up getting your vehicle weighed and playing more with the gtech? Given the upcoming dyno runs with Guy, could be an opportune time to try calibrate against the APR dyno. I'm going to try get out today to do some HP runs. Will use vehicle weight of 1180 and thinking 10% drive train loss would be reasonable (though is purely an assumption). Will look closer at the gtech recommendations and alter accordingly.

I should have lap timing sorted for next weekend, if you're staying around shortly after, ill bring a laptop computer and check out the data.
