the underside of the grill does not fit well on the bumper.
and i could not get the grill to fit unless i drilled away the round plastic thing in the middle that holds the stock VW logo.
do you also have that problem?
Yes unfortunately! They don't advertise the fact you have to permanently modify the bumper.

I cut the round support (which I don't think serves a purpose anyway) off with a little hacksaw.

And then just filed the sharp plastic edges to smooth it all off.

yeah, i have had the same issue,
i also cut away the plastic holder with a Dremel.
could not get the grill to fit otherwise.

if you want the red line on the grill,
click it out of the original grill and cut away the plastic pins on it.
and then even the back of it the smooth it because its not straight.
when it was smooth i have glued it on the FK grill and the result was awsome,
    looks like standard

I caught up with Anthony on the weekend as I'm starting to look into mods on my car, namely starting with suspension and maybe ending where he's currently at with stage 2.

What can I say - wholly mother of god, what a nicely set-up car it is.

Made mine (stock) with 2/3 the km's and 1/3 it's age, feel old, loose and ponderous. Suspension is beatifully compliant and steering nicely accurate, no body roll and when I intentionally pushed it wide, no kick back or silly bugger lift off oversteer - ease off the gas, front regains grip and off you go again. No lose of composure and has the power and grip to pull it straight again. As funds prevail, I will be mimicking the suspension set-up without hesitation. Great for a street car and regularly track excursions.

Power and mechanical wise - sweet. The gear box simply feels stronger and more accurate, power delivery is very smooth from around the 2000-2500rpm, and doesn't have the subaru lag below those revs. There's really no other way to explain other than stronger and quicker. No idea about quarter mile times as we were in suburbia and the highway onramp has a darn radar on the merging lane, so could barely touch 3rd with any enthusiasm.

No idea why you want stage 3 though mate

    Another victim!

I like the proper approach of doing the suspension first, but I think that without the extra power, its kind of void.

As far as power goes, think you can skip the Ko4, Forge pipes and manifold, save a lot of money and get good results. If you decide to still go all the way, really have not lost any cash other than the reprogramming

He's been happy with the suspension and given the following for the H&R springs and obvious benefit of Koni shocks, sounds like a good combo if you've got the green.

The front brace, rear sway and bushes go a long way to making the car rigid and tight in the twisties, especially when combined with good springs and shocks.

Brakes are fine stock for daily driving, I don't understand the need to upgrade as the Polo stops very fast, even in the wet when you plant your foot. For tracking, bigger brakes or atreast better pads, rotors and fluid are a must. I destroyed my brakes very quickly at the track, still going, but would not consider going back and trying them again.

Don't underestimate the choice and selection of wheels and tyres in the whole handling package, I think the stock wheels don't do justice to the potential of the car when you start doing all this work. The Conti's were useless on the track.

keen to hear about your progress, and thanks to VWindahouse for converting another disciple to the house of the Pog.

agree with you Noone. first round for me will be a similar set up to what you've done, though koni's in before the tune.

    My plan of attack:
Stage 1: H&R/koni's, bushes, front strut brace, seat intake, dogbone mount, while replacing engine, gearbox and brake fluid. (hopefully by November 7)

QR isn't really hard on the brakes with standard power, car isn't quick enough to challenge them too much, only 3 braking points, 1 of them only dropping 30-40km/hr, so the tune (which will most likely be custom code) will result in new pads, diverter valve and the TIP. Further suspension/chassis tweaks from there depending on how it feels and performs, and also if anyone brings there car out and whoops my arse

    sounds good Sean!

Will you be using a rear swaybar or front as well in that setup?

Personally I don't think the Tip and Throttle body hose are required, in terms of power gain, there really isn't any using the stock turbo. It does help the engine to breathe, definately the Seat intake or Pod filer.

I'm getting a price for the RSB, will see what everything else comes to and make the decision from there, it's not on the essential list atm as I can do it myself at anytime in the future. As for the hoses, it's mainly to ensure that there is sufficient air coming into the engine as summer up here is quite warm and there seems to be more track time offered in the warmer months than the cold ones. Power is a far second to longetivity of the package

Really glad you enjoyed it Sean!! And thanks for the feedback and write up too. It's always great getting the opportunity to pick the brain of a seasoned track whore like yourself
