The secret to it all is .... know the road you are driving on ..... if you travel it often you will know where they like to hide and slow down accordingly. You might be unlucky and get caught by a patrol car but that would be rare.

If you don't know the road, stick to the speed limit .... driving a slow car for trips into the unknown helps ....

Peter you may be able to verify this. i heard that the stationary speed camera vans (with the signs up around it) are only allowed to take photos at night of cars that are on its side of the road, to avoid the deliberate flashing light in the faces of those offenders on the opposite side of the road. i know that when a car on the vans side of the road gets flashed, the on coming cars on the other side get flashed anyway, but this is considered to be non-intentional. i hope you can understand what i am asking here and give us some answers. i always thought it could take photos on either side of the road day and night.

as for sneaky coppers in various cars, the Gold Coast is taking a strangle hold! in the last two weeks i have seen (keep in mind these all look completely stocko) a black Chrysler 300C, a maroon Subaru Liberty GT, a black Nissan Murano and a black HSV senator.

i have also seen a fully worked blue Pulsar GTI-R with white wheels that eggs people on for a drag race by revving at the lights and then putts off the line hoping the other car will launch. if it does, an undercover car very close-by flicks on the light show and books them. this has happened to a couple of mates of mine now. thats an absoluet disgrace in my books...a low act. i heard a few years back that it is the coppers son that drives the GTI-R.

i have also heard of this and seen it... may be the same guy...my friends dad is a cop and borrows his sons GTI-R to do exactly that! but in melb...i shall find out who it is and tell you his name so we can go bash him...JOKES! but it really is a dog act...i mean driving quickly to the speed limit is no criminal act.

agree with sharkie. its a good idea to know yr road. if you dont know it, then yr up for more risk if you speed.

Also, make sure you look well down the road - you can often see either a speed camera or van on the side, or you can see the brake lights of cars ahead - a dead giveway.

my two cars have a combined power output of over 600KW and i havent lost a single point in over 7 yrs (oops, speaking too soon....???)

the radars in the vans have a range of ~600m so you would want to have bloody good vision.

So you drive them like they have 60kw combined?

I think you're just trying to brag (although a Falcon is nothing to brag about).

If the 4WD / Van is on your side of the road the camera points out the front... you can slow down at the rear bumper and still not get booked..

If it is facing you, well thats another story
